[Termes IGN] ontologieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper focuses on the specific problem of geographic database schema matching, as a first step in an integration application. We propose, a schema matching approach based on attributes values and background ontology. We follow the intuition that comparing only schema classes is not sufficient and that there are specific class attributes in geographic database classes whose role consists in specifying the exact nature of each class instance. Their enumerated values refer to geographic concepts. We assume that it is possible to take advantage of this additional knowledge for upgrading the level of granularity of schema classifications by making it explicit in local ontologies created from each database schema that we have to match. Moreover, we propose to use external domain knowledge, namely background ontology, to improve our schema matching strategy, which implies local ontology matching. We lastly present and discus the results of two schema matching tests based on this schema matching strategy. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this paper is to present a spatially explicit agent-based simulation framework with a supporting software package to explore complex adaptive geographic systems. This framework is particularly suitable for modeling entities that are contextually aware, knowledge driven, and adaptive because it represents them as geographically aware intelligent agents. Fundamental advances in the explicit representation of contextual information, knowledge structures, and learning processes are needed for modeling intelligent agents situated within geographic systems. The representation of these agents requires the integration of agent-based models, machine learning, and GIS. Existing software packages for agent-based modeling, however, often provide insufficient support for this integration. The agent-based simulation package presented here is specifically designed to achieve such integration by assisting the development of agent-based models from the simulation framework. Object-oriented modeling techniques were used to implement this simulation package, which includes four modules: simulation, visualization, learning, and geoprocessing. In particular, the learning and geoprocessing modules facilitate the representation of adaptive behavior in agents within spatially explicit environments. The utility of the agent-based simulation package is illustrated using two simulation models: one of adaptive elk behavior and another of pedestrian movement. The successful design of the simulation models suggests that the modeling framework with the supporting software package is well suited to the resolution of complex adaptive geographic problems. [Termes IGN] réseau de transportRésumé : (Auteur) A transit network is a spatiotemporally dynamic system whose topology, components, and services all change over time. The complexity and dynamic nature of transit networks make it difficult to model by traditional transportation models. This paper presents an object-oriented data model that coherently represents space, time, and dynamics of transit networks and supports schedule-based pathfinding. In this data model, a transit network and its components are modelled as spatiotemporal objects that have properties and behaviours. Unlike traditional roadway transportation network models that define topology as connectivity between geometric elements such as edges and nodes, this data model uniquely defines topology as sequences and collections of transit features which are application domain objects. Moreover, this data model supports the generation of active network topologies based on given times to represent real-time network states as well as to reduce topological redundancy. Implementations of the data model in two Internet transit trip planners have demonstrated that it can effectively reduce computation complexity of schedule-based pathfinding algorithms and enhance pathfinding performance. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) In most forestry remote sensing applications in steep terrain, simple photometric and empirical (PE) topographic corrections are confounded as a result of stand structure and species assemblages that vary with terrain and the anisotropic reflective properties of vegetated surfaces. To address these problems, we present MFM-TOPO as a new physically-based modelling (PBM) approach for normalising topographically induced signal variance as a function of forest stand structure and sub-pixel scale components. MFM-TOPO uses the Li-Strahler geometric optical mutual shadowing (GOMS) canopy reflectance model in Multiple Forward Mode (MFM) to account for slope and aspect influences directly. MFM-TOPO has an explicit physical-basis and uses sun-canopy-sensor (SCS) geometry that is more appropriate than strictly terrain-based corrections in forested areas since it preserves the geotropic nature of trees (vertical growth with respect to the geoid) regardless of terrain, view and illumination angles. MFM-TOPO is compared against our recently developed SCS+C correction and a comprehensive set of other existing PE and SCS methods (cosine, C correction, Minnaert, statistical-empirical, SCS, and b correction) for removing topographically induced variance and for improving SPOT image classification accuracy in a Rocky Mountain forest in Kananaskis, Alberta Canada. MFM-TOPO removed the most terrain-based variance and provided the greatest improvement in classification accuracy within a species and stand density based class structure. For example, pine class accuracy was increased by 62% over shaded slopes, and spruce class accuracy was increased by 13% over more moderate slopes. In addition to classification, MFM-TOPO is suitable for retrieving biophysical parameters in mountainous terrain.
