[Termes IGN] recouvrement d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Automation in 3-dimension (3D) object reconstruction is a relevant and challenging task, both from a practical and scientific point of view. This paper deals with two basic non-planar primitive objects—spatial polygons and 3D closed curves. To achieve 3D information from a pair of images, with known interior and exterior orientations, it is necessary to first extract t2D objects from each of the images separately, then match the objects to find homologues points between them, and finally reconstruct the 3D object. The matching problem between two objects derived from two different images, has a trivial solution: For each point in the first object the corresponding homologous point in the second object can be found by intersecting its epipolar line and the second object in the second image space. However, because extraction of objects in the image space is performed automatically, the process often fails. For example, when there are a number of intersections per point there is no intersection at all, or there are more points than those existing in the “real” 3D object. To overcome these difficulties, innovative algorithms designed to enable a maximal matching between polygons or closed curves and to find homologues points between them were developed. The algorithms are iterative and are based on the “overlapping criterion” between the objects. According to this criterion, projection of two polygons or closed curves from the image space to any planar surface using the real depths leads to a maximal matching between the objects. The suggested process is based on the well known optimization model called “adjustment by conditions.” One of the 2D polygons or closed curves is chosen as the static object and the other is the dynamic object. The unknowns in this model are the real depths of each point in the dynamic object. The points in the dynamic object are assigned a previously calculated average depth. In each iteration, these depths are updated until the conditional equation is optimized. During the iterations the dynamic object “slides” in the direction of the epipolar line in the image space of the static object. The “slide” rate is not constant because it depends on the varying depths of each point. The iteration process stops when the maximum overlap between the static and dynamic objects is achieved in the image space of the static object. In this paper, the algorithms, the experiments, and the results are detailed. [Termes IGN] reconstruction d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Given the hyperspectral-oriented waveband configuration of multiangular CHRIS/Proba imagery, the scope of its application could widen if the present 18-m resolution would be improved. The multiangular images of CHRIS could be used as input for superresolution (SR) image reconstruction. A critical procedure in SR is an accurate registration of the low-resolution images. Conventional methods based on affine transformation may not be effective given the local geometric distortion in high off-nadir angular images. This paper examines the use of a nonrigid transform to improve the result of a nonuniform interpolation and deconvolution SR method. A scale-invariant feature transform is used to collect control points (CPs). To ensure the quality of CPs, a rigorous screening procedure is designed: 1) an ambiguity test; 2) the m-estimator sample consensus method; and 3) an iterative method using statistical characteristics of the distribution of random errors. A thin-plate spline (TPS) nonrigid transform is then used for the registration. The proposed registration method is examined with a Delaunay triangulation-based nonuniform interpolation and reconstruction SR method. Our results show that the TPS nonrigid transform allows accurate registration of angular images. SR results obtained from simulated LR images are evaluated using three quantitative measures, namely, relative mean-square error, structural similarity, and edge stability. Compared to the SR methods that use an affine transform, our proposed method performs better with all three evaluation measures. With a higher level of spatial detail, SR-enhanced CHRIS images might be more effective than the original data in various applications. This study directly compares a map with a more recent image in order to detect the discrepancies between them. An automatic workflow was designed to process the image based on existing information extracted from the vector database. First, geographic object-based image analysis provided automatically labeled image segments after matching the vector database to the image. Then, discrepan-cies were detected using a statistical iterative trimming, where outliers were excluded based on a likelihood threshold. Applied on forest map updating, the proposed workflow was able to detect about 75 percent of the forest regeneration, and 100 percent of the clear cuts with less than 10 percent of commission errors. This discrepancy detection approach assumes that discrepancy corresponds to small proportion of the map area and is very promising in diverse applications thanks to its flexibility. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Frequently, terrestrial LiDAR and image data are used to extract high resolution building geometry like windows, doors and protrusions for three-dimensional (3D) façade reconstruction. However, such a purely data driven bottom-up modelling of façade structures is only feasible if the available observations meet considerable requirements on data quality. Errors in measurement, varying point densities, reduced accuracies, as well as incomplete coverage affect the achievable correctness and reliability of the reconstruction result. While dependence on data quality is a general disadvantage with data driven bottom-up approaches, model based top-down reconstructions are much more robust. Algorithms introduce knowledge about the appearance and arrangement of objects. Thus, they cope with data uncertainty and allow for a procedural modelling of building structures in a predefined architectural style, which is inherent in grammar or model descriptions. We aim at a quality sensitive façade reconstruction which is on the one hand robust against erroneous and incomplete data, but on the other hand not subject to prespecified rules or models. For this purpose, we combine bottom-up and top-down strategies by integrating automatically inferred rules into a data driven reconstruction process. Façade models reconstructed during a bottom-up method serve as a knowledge base for further processing. Dominant or repetitive features and regularities as well as their hierarchical relationship are detected from the modelled façade elements and automatically translated into rules. These rules together with the 3D representations of the modelled façade elements constitute a formal grammar. It holds all the information which is necessary to reconstruct façades in the style of the given building. The paper demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is very flexible towards different data quality and incomplete sensor data. The inferred grammar is used for the verification of the façade model produced during the data driven reconstruction process and the generation of synthetic façades for which only partial or no sensor data is available. Moreover, knowledge propagation is not restricted to façades of one single building. Based on a small set of formal grammars derived from just a few observed buildings, façade reconstruction is also possible for whole districts featuring uniform architectural styles. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) Cet article présente une étude dont l'objectif était d'aider les utilisateurs des données géospatiales à reconnaître et à extraire le plus automatiquement possible les changements géométriques d'objets linéaires entre deux versions d'une base de données géospatiales. Nous présentons un inventaire et une analyse de certaines techniques d'appariement géométrique en testant individuellement celles-ci pour la mise à jour d'un réseau routier représenté à deux dates différentes. Par la suite, nous proposons l'assemblage d'une variété d'indicateurs d'appariement géométrique basés sur quatre paramètres : distance, forme, longueur et orientation. Nous les insérons dans une procédure automatisée d'appariement géométrique basée sur un processus itératif. Les résultats révèlent un taux de réussite de l'ordre de 90 %.
