[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) An approach for tree species classification in urban areas from high resolution colour infrared (CIR) aerial images and the corresponding Digital Surface Model (DSM) is described in this paper. The proposed method is a supervised classification one based on a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. Texture features from the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) are computed to form feature vectors for both per-pixel and per-region classification approaches. The two approaches are presented and results obtained are evaluated and compared both against each other and also against a manual defined ground truth. To perform tree species classification on highdensity urban area images, trees must previously be segmented into individual objects. All intermediary methods developed to segment individual trees will also be shortly described. Tree parameters (height, crown diameter) are estimated from the DSM. These parameters together with the tree species information are used for a 3D realistic modelling of the trees in urban environments. Results of the described system are presented for a typical scene. We present a hierarchical strategy to extract, analyze and delineate vegetation areas according to their height. To detect urban vegetation areas, we develop two methods, one using spectral indices and the second one based on a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. Once vegetation areas detected, we differentiate lawns from treed areas by computing a texture operator on the Digital Surface Model (DSM). A robust region growing method based on the DSM is proposed for an accurate delineation of tree crowns. Delineation results are compared to results obtained by a Random Walk region growing technique for tree crown delineation. We evaluate the accuracy of the tree crown delineation results to a reference manual delineation. Results obtained are discussed and the influential factors are put forward. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) This paper analyzes the potential of airborne laser scanner data for measuring individual tree height growth in a boreal forest using 82 sample trees of Scots pine. Point clouds (10 points/m2, beam size 40 cm) illuminating 50 percent of the treetops were acquired in September 1998 and May 2003 with the Toposys 83 kHz lidar system. The reference height and height growth of pines were measured with a tacheometer in the field. Three different types of features were extracted from the point clouds representing each tree; they were the difference between the highest z values, the difference between the DSMs of the tree crown, and the differences between the 85th, 90th and 95th percentiles of the canopy height histograms corresponding to the crown. The best correspondence with the field measurements was achieved with an R2 value of 0.68 and a RMSE of 43 cm. The results indicate that it is possible to measure the growth of an individual tree with multi-temporal laser surveys. We also demonstrated a new algorithm for tree-to-tree matching. It is needed in operational growth estimation based on individual trees, especially in dense spruce forests. The method is based on minimizing the distances between treetops in the N- dimensional data space. The experiments showed that the use of the location (derived from laser data) and height of the trees were together adequate to provide reliable tree-to-tree matching. In the future, a fourth dimension (the crown area) should also be included in the matching. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne scanning LiDAR is a spatial technology increasingly used for forestry and environmental applications. However, the accuracy and coverage of LiDAR observations is highly dependent on both the extrinsic specifications of the LiDAR survey as well as the intrinsic effects such as the underlying forest structure. Extrinsic parameters which are set as part of the LiDAR survey include platform altitude, scan angle (half max. angle off nadir), and beam cross sectional diameter at the reflecting surface (referred to as footprint size). In this paper we investigate the effect of a number of these extrinsic parameters, including three different platform altitudes (1000, 2000, and 3000 m), two scan angles at 1000 m (10° and 15° half max. angle off nadir), and three footprint sizes (0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 m). The comparison was undertaken in eucalypt forests at three sites, varying in vegetation structure and topography within the Wedding Bells State Forest, Coffs Harbour, Australia. Results at the plot scale (40 * 90 m areas) indicate that tree heights computed from the 1000 m LiDAR data set (10° half max. angle off nadir) are well correlated with maximum plot heights (difference 0.75, p Numéro de notice : A2006-320 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2006.03.003 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2006.03.003 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=28044
