[Termes IGN] surveillance de l'urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) Inferring land use from satellite images is extensively studied by the remote sensing and pattern recognition communities. In previous studies, the focus was on classifying large regions due to the resolution of available satellite images. Nowadays, very high-resolution satellite imagery (Ikonos and Quickbird) allows researchers to focus on more complex land-use problems such as monitoring development in urban regions. Solutions to these complex problems may improve the life standards of city residents. To this end, we focus on automatically monitoring construction zones using their very high-resolution panchromatic satellite images through time. To monitor land development, we obtain sequential images of a selected region. Then, we extract features from each image in the sequence. Comparing values of these features, we expect to measure the degree of land development through time. In a similar study, we introduced graph theoretical measures over Ikonos imagery to measure organization in a given satellite image. This paper is an extension of our previous work with more powerful new features. Here, we first introduce a novel method to extract straight line segments using a least squares ellipse fitting. Then, we introduce four new graph theoretical features. More importantly, we introduce a novel method to embed the spatial information in gray-level co-occurrence matrix statistical features to measure land development. Finally, we test all our existing and new features to measure land development in 19 different urban construction zones. Our test set consists of Ikonos satellite images of these regions captured in separate times. [Termes IGN] transformation de FourierRésumé : (Auteur) The application of Fourier Series to cartography and GIS, in particular to shape analysis, fine simplification and enhancement, and the measurement of cartographic scale, is explored. Vector representations of the Australian coastline are manipulated using Fourier techniques and the output appraised in terms of its ability to encapsulate the shape of the original coastline, or as a simplified or enhanced version of the original. Using Fourier techniques on vector representations of parts of the Australian coastline at six different cartographic scales, a relationship between cartographic scale and line complexity is found to exist, and an empirical expression of that relationship developed. The intent of developing an empirical relationship is to bring greater consistency to the process of assigning cartographic scale to data, and thereby to the process of map production, data simplification and GIS analysis. Fourier techniques are found to be a poor encapsulator of cartographic shape, a good method of line simplification and enhancement, and a promising method of measuring cartographic scale. As background, some revision of the history and mathematics of Fourier Series, and previous research into the application of Fourier Series to cartography, is given. [Termes IGN] segment de droiteRésumé : (Auteur) With the development of remote sensors and satellite technologies, high-resolution satellite data such as IKONOS images have been available recently. By these new high resolution satellite data, remote sensing technologies can be successfully applied to more application areas such as extracting road network from high resolution satellite images. This paper proposes a newly developed approach to extract a road network from high resolution satellite images. The approach is based on the binary and greyscale mathematical morphology and a line segment match method. First, the outline of road network is detected based on the grey morphological characteristics. Then, the basic road network is detected by the line segment match method. Next, the detected basic road network is processed based on the knowledge about the roads and binary mathematical morphological methods. Finally, visual analysis and three indicators are used to evaluate the accuracy of the extracted road networks. The results of the accuracy evaluation demonstrate that the developed road network extraction approach can provide both good visual effect and high positional accuracy. [Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a unique approach for road extraction utilizing pixel spectral information for classification and image segmentation-derived object features was developed. In this approach, road extraction was performed in two steps. In the first step, support vector machine (SVM) was employed merely to classify the image into two groups of categories: a road group and a non-road group. For this classification, support vector machine (SVM) achieved higher accuracy than Gaussian maximum likelihood (GML). In the second step, the road group image was segmented into geometrically homogeneous objects using a region growing technique based on a similarity criterion, with higher weighting on shape factors over spectral criteria. A simple thresholding on the shape index and density features derived from these objects was performed to extract road features, which were further processed by thinning and vectorization to obtain road centerlines. The experiment showed the proposed approach worked well with images comprised by both rural and urban area features. Here we are interesting in surveys mixing image and laser scanning, for metrological applications. Since data need to be registered with the best accuracy, we are faced to a 2D-3D pose estimation problem. In most cases, scenes contain numerous segments, which are good orientation dues. We use these segments to find pose. Therefore, targets are less prevalent for location and orientation estimation purpose. This means less field operations during data acquisition. Since some scenes with very few straight lines can leave insufficient spatial constraints, we reintroduce points. We can deal with feature points to reinforce the System. Then, the algorithm simultaneously minimizes an energy function managing distances between 3D points projection in images and image points, and distances on segments ends. Precise determination of primitives in 2D and 3D data leads to fine orientation. Using subpixelar regression after an edge detection gives high-quality estimates for 2D segments. In point clouds, 3D segments corne from plane intersection. We discuss relative influence of features through uncertainty assessment.
