[Termes IGN] répartition géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Determination of spatial distribution of coal quality parameters can ease management of the operations in coal mines. In this study, in order to provide guidance for the excavations, Can coal mine production map showing regions having suitable coal parameters as feed coals for a power plant and also for public sale was prepared using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system tool. Statistical relationships among calorific value, ash content and sulphur content were evaluated using the data obtained from boreholes opened in the mine between 2006 and 2009. According to the obtained production map, coals of Can mine are not suitable for public sale because of their high sulphur content and hence they should be blended with low sulphur coals to meet the requirements, before sale. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (auteur) Monitoring ground deformations arising from groundwater dynamics in dense urban coastal terrains is crucial for the sustainable development of infrastructures in these highly populated areas. The city of Montreal, which is located in the Saint-Laurent plain in eastern Canada, with its fast-growing populations, is a unique case study for other similar cities in coastal terrains. The city undergoes high-level house foundation damages with densities reaching up to 89 repairs/km2 resulting from time-dependent ground deformations that are correlated to groundwater dynamics and evapotranspiration. Using Radarsat-2 C-Band synthetic aperture radar interferometry, we observe 3- to 5-mm ground line-of-sight displacement variations temporally outphased by few months relative to the 2-m subartesian aquifer hydraulic head variations. The deformations are observed over a 60-km2 area located in the central part of the Montreal Island in Canada, from 2008 to 2010. We observe displacements of ~1 mm/year uplift in the areas covered by 15-m-thick clay layer. These displacements are well correlated to the number of house repairs. We also observe ~2 mm/year subsidence on elevated terrains, associated with evapotranspiration. The amplitudes of the displacements observed during this two-year study are significant when integrated over the average lifetime of urban structures. We conclude that the observed ground deformations are related to the seasonal variation of hydraulic head in most of the areas of Montreal. Moreover, wetter climate forecasts over upcoming decades for this area, will accentuate groundwater level fluctuations; thus, more ground deformations are foreseen, and have to be considered in future infrastructure design standards. [Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) Mapping slope movements in Alpine environments is an increasingly important task in the context of climate change and natural hazard management. We propose the detection, mapping and inventorying of slope movements using different interferometric methods based on TerraSAR-X satellite images. Differential SAR interferograms (DInSAR), Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI), Short-Baseline Interferometry (SBAS) and a semi-automated texture image analysis are presented and compared in order to determine their contribution for the automatic detection and mapping of slope movements of various velocity rates encountered in Alpine environments. Investigations are conducted in a study region of about 6 km × 6 km located in the Western Swiss Alps using a unique large data set of 140 DInSAR scenes computed from 51 summer TerraSAR-X (TSX) acquisitions from 2008 to 2012. We found that PSI is able to precisely detect only points moving with velocities below 3.5 cm/yr in the LOS, with a root mean squared error of about 0.58 cm/yr compared to DGPS records. SBAS employed with 11 days summer interferograms increases the range of detectable movements to rates up to 35 cm/yr in the LOS with a root mean squared error of 6.36 cm/yr, but inaccurate measurements due to phase unwrapping are already possible for velocity rates larger than 20 cm/year. With the semi-automated texture image analysis the rough estimation of the velocity rates over an outlined moving zone is accurate for rates of “cm/day”, “dm/month” and “cm/month”, but due to the decorrelation of yearly TSX interferograms this method fails for the observation of slow movements in the “cm/yr” range.
