[Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (auteur) The field of geographic information science has grown exponentially over the last few decades and, particularly within the context of the pervasiveness of the internet, bears witness to a rapid transition of its associated technologies from stand-alone systems to increasingly networked and distributed systems as geospatial information becomes increasingly available online. With its long-standing history for innovation, the field has adopted many disruptive technologies from the fields of computer and information sciences through this transition towards web geographic information systems (GIS); most interestingly in the context of this research is the limited uptake of semantic web technologies by the field and its associated technologies, the lack of which has resulted in a technological disjoint between these fields. As the field seeks to make geospatial information more accessible to more users and in more contexts through ‘self-service’ applications, the use of these technologies is imperative to support the interoperability between distributed data sources. This paper aims to provide insight into what linked data tooling already exists, and based on the features of these, what may be possible for the achievement of self-service GIS. Findings include what visualisation, interactivity, analytics and usability features could be included in the realisation of self-service GIS, pointing to the opportunities that exist in bringing GIS technologies closer to the user. [Termes IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The large volume and variety of data produced in the current Big Data era lead companies to seek solutions for the efficient data management. Within this context, NoSQL databases rise as a better alternative to the traditional relational databases, mainly in terms of scalability and availability of data. A usual feature of NoSQL databases is to be schemaless, i.e., they do not impose a schema or have a flexible schema. This is interesting for systems that deal with complex data, such as GIS. However, the lack of a schema becomes a problem when applications need to perform processes such as data validation, data integration, or data interoperability, as there is no pattern for schema representation in NoSQL databases. On the other hand, the JSON language stands out as a standard for representing and exchanging data in document NoSQL databases, and JSON Schema is a schema representation language for JSON documents that it is also leading to become a standard. However, it does not include spatial data types. From this limitation, this paper proposes an extension to JSON Schema, called JS4Geo, that allows the definition of schemas for geographic data. We demonstrate that JS4Geo is able to represent schemas of any NoSQL data model, as well as other standards for geographic data, like GML and KML. We also present a case study that shows how a data integration system can benefit of JS4Geo to define local schemas for geographic datasets and generate an integrated global schema. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) In the last decades, the use of information management systems in the building data processing led to radical changes to the methods of data production, documentation and archiving. In particular, the possibilities, given by these information systems, to visualize the 3D model and to formulate queries have placed the question of the information sharing in digital format. The integration of information systems represents an efficient solution for defining smart, sustainable and resilient projects, such as conservation and restoration processes, giving the possibilities to combine heterogeneous data. GIS provides a robust data storage system, a definition of topological and semantic relationships and spatial queries. 3D GIS makes possible the creation of three-dimensional model in a geospatial context. To promote the interoperability of GIS data, the present research aims first to analyse methods of conversion in CityGML and IndoorGML model, defining an ontological domain. This has led to the creation of a new enriched model, based on connections among the different elements of the urban model in GIS environment, and to the possibility to formulate queries based on these relations. The second step consists in collecting all data translated into a specific format that fill a graph database in a semantic web environment, while maintaining those relationships. The semantic web technology represents an efficient tool of interoperability that leaves open the possibility to import BIM data in the same graph database and to join both GIS and BIM models. The outcome will offer substantial benefits during the entire project life cycle. This methodology can also be applied to cultural heritage where the information management plays a key role. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Since the vision of a Digital Earth (DE) was introduced in 1998, geo-browsers seem to have nearly fulfilled this vision. Virtual reality (VR) for visualizing the DE provides an immersive user experience in a mirror world. Location-based augmented reality (AR) browsers have been introduced and provide content according to user and environmental contexts. However, the content models of traditional geo-browsers and AR browsers have very limited interoperability, because they are described in application-specific formats using their domain standards. Each application is vertically integrated from content to application. The Web is an interoperable and open platform, and hundreds of millions of users are already using it to create and share content. To envision DE browsers for cross-reality (XR) environments that concurrently support geovisualization as well as VR, AR, and mixed-reality environments, we propose a DE content model based on Web standards and architecture that provides full interoperability and openness for XR browsers as a first-class citizen of the Web. This is expected to improve the DE content development efficiency by fully using the Web content development environment.
