[Termes IGN] surveillance d'ouvrageRésumé : (Auteur) The paper presents an Image-based Method for Crack Analysis (IMAC) which is capable of processing a sequence of digital imagery to perform a twofold task:(i) the extraction of crack borders and the evaluation of its width across the longitudinal profile; (ii) the measurement of crack deformations (width, sliding and rotation). Here both problems are solved in 2D, but an extension to 3D is also addressed. The equipment needed to apply the method is made up of a digital camera (or a still video-camera in case a high frequency in data acquisition is necessary), an orientation frame which establishes the object reference system, a pair of signalized supports to be placed in a permanent way on both sides of the crack to compute deformations ; however, permanent targets are mandatory only for case (ii). The measurement process is carried out in a fully automatic way, a fact also that makes this technique highly operational for unskilled people in engineering surveying or photogrammetry. The accuracy of the proposed method, evaluated in experimental tests adopting different consumer digital cameras, is about + 5-20 um, like the accuracy of most deformometers, but with the advantage of automation and of augmented achievable information ; moreover, the image sequence can be archived and off-line measurements could be performed at any time. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) The generalization of digital terrain models (DTMs) is a tool of great potential for simultaneous cartographic and photogrammetry generation processes at different scales, the main object of which is to feed different geographic information systems (GIS). These GIS enable multi-scale analysis and visualization through different data bases. This research proposes a semi-automatic DTM generalization process conditioned by a series of predefined parameters resulting in the generation of hybrid DTMs at different scales starting from a single cloud of points obtained through large-scale massive data acquisition processes. The generalization results obtained, applied on different areas of different relief, offer specific application ranks for each parameter with great precision, in contrast with DTMs obtained directly in each scale. [Termes IGN] traitement géométrique de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose the use of Geometric Activity (GA) features for detecting man-made objects in urban areas using VHR satellite imagery. These features describe the geometric context of a pixel without the necessity of segmentation and can be integrated as extra bands in a per-pixel classification. Two main types of GA features were investigated: ridge features based on the well-known facet model and morphological features obtained by applying closing transforms with structuring elements of different size and shape. Our findings show a substantial increase in classification accuracy for the man-made object classes “roads and buildings with dark roof” after inclusion of GA features. Next to GA features, the use of object-based features derived from eCognition®, containing both geometric and textural information, was also investigated for per-pixel classification. Accuracies obtained with object-based features are comparable to the accuracies obtained with GA features. The inclusion of both GA features and object-based features further improves the overall accuracy. GA features and object-based features thus contain complementary information.
