[Termes IGN] segmentationRésumé : (auteur) To study the applicability of full polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data to identify alpine glaciers in the central Himalayas, six polarimetric decomposition methods were used to obtain 20 polarimetric characteristic parameters based on the Advanced Land Observing Satellite 2 (ALOS-2) Phased Array type L-band SAR (PALSAR) data. Object-oriented multiscale segmentation was performed on a Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) image prior to classification, and the vector boundaries of different types of training samples were selected from the segmented results. We performed a support vector machine (SVM)-based classification on the characteristic parameters from each polarimetric decomposition. All 20 parameters were then screened and combined according to different requirements: the degree of separability of different types of training samples and the type of scattering mechanisms. The results show that the classification accuracy of the incoherent decomposition characteristics based on the covariance matrix is the best, reaching 87%, and it can exceed 91% after adding the local incidence angle to the suite of classifiers. Eventually, more than 93% accuracy was achieved using a combination of multiple polarimetric parameters, which reduced the misclassification between bare ice and rock. We also analyzed the use of controlling factors on the accuracy of alpine glacier identification and found that the polarimetric information and aspect of the glacier surface are the most important factors. The former is the main basis for identification but the latter will confuse the feature distributions of different categories and cause misclassification. [Termes IGN] tourbièreRésumé : (Auteur) Individual tree crown segmentation is important step for deriving various information for fine-scale analysis of ecological process. However, only several studies have applied tree crown segmentation in tropical forest ecosystems, especially in mixed peat swamp forests. In this study, hyperspectral data were used to detect changes in the biochemical and biophysical characteristics, which are important factors for tree crown segmentation. Principal Component Analysis method was performed to investigate its influence on crown segmentation. Visually Selected PCs, 160 PCs and 160 Spectral Bands image were used and two segmentation techniques; Watershed Transformation and Region Growing segmentation were applied on those images. The highest accuracy was achieved for the crown segmentation is using Region Growing segmentation, based on 1:1 measurement, D value and RMSE value. The results obtained from 160 PCs image using region growing algorithm shows better accuracy with D value of 0.2 (80% accuracy, 20% error) and RMSE of 9.9 m2. [Termes IGN] Uttarakhand (Inde ; état)Résumé : (auteur) It is important to identify and locate glacial lakes for assessing any potential hazard. This study presents a combination of semi-automatic method Double-Window Flexible Pace Search (DFPS) and edge detection technique to identify glacial lakes using Sentinel 2A satellite data. Initially, Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) has been used to identify water and non-water areas, while DFPS and Edge detection technique has been used to identify an optimum threshold value to distinguish between water and shadow areas. The optimal threshold from DFPS process is 0.21, while threshold value of gradient magnitude using edge detection process is 0.318. The number of glacial lakes identified using the above algorithm is in close agreement with previously published results on glacial lakes in Gangotri glacier using different techniques. Thus, a combination of DFPS and edge detection process has successfully segregated glacial lakes from other features present in Gangotri glacier. [Termes IGN] température de surface de la merRésumé : (auteur) Unlike the other lakes, the Caspian Sea has regular water level fluctuations caused by variation in temperature and salinity, which is known as thermohaline fluctuations. Vertically variable temperature and salinity data are needed in order to monitor thermohaline fluctuations. These data are regularly recorded for the open seas by remote sensing and in-situ approaches. However, there is no such information for inland water bodies, such as the Caspian Sea. In this research, daily Sea Surface Temperature (SST) from the NOAA satellite, plus long-term mean temperature, and salinity datasets from Atlas 2009 were utilized to construct bulk temperature and salinity in the Caspian Sea. The Atlas vertical profiles are not deep enough in the Caspian Sea; we expanded these data down to a thermocline depth, using a linear fitting. Constructed bulk temperature and salinity data utilized in water density calculations. The results show that thermohaline level fluctuation estimated by constructed bulk data is consisted of what a combination of altimetry and gravimetry system observed in the Caspian Sea. In the absence of necessary data, this method is helpful for bulk temperature and salinity estimations in the Caspian Sea with a satisfactory level of accuracy. The estimated thermohaline has an accuracy of about 93%, under the situation that there was 15% error in the estimation of both bulk temperature and salinity. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) Deformation of the Earth's surface associated with redistributions of continental water mass explains, to first order, the seasonal signals observed in geodetic position time series. Discriminating these seasonal signals from other sources of deformation in geodetic measurements is essential to isolate tectonic signals and to monitor spatio‐temporal variations in continental water storage. We propose a new methodology to identify and extract these seasonal signals. The approach uses a variational Bayesian Independent Component Analysis (vbICA) to extract the seasonal signals and a gravity‐based deformation model to identify which of these signals are caused by surface loading. We test the procedure on two study areas, the Arabian Peninsula and the Nepal Himalaya, and find that the technique successfully extracts the seasonal signals with one or two independent components, depending on whether the load is stationary or moving. The approach is robust to spatial heterogeneities inherent to geodetic measurements and can help extract systematic errors in geodetic products (e.g., draconitic errors). We also discuss how to handle the degree‐1 deformation field present in the geodetic data set but not captured by the gravity‐based model.
