[Termes IGN] TibetRésumé : (auteur) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and remote sensing Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) represent earth’s surface elevation with reference to ellipsoid and orthometric heights. Proper estimation of the geoid (difference of ellipsoid and orthometric heights) is necessary before comparing data referenced to the different vertical datum. In this paper, an error in estimating EGM96 orthometric height is highlighted, verified by NGA/NASA developed model and MATLAB®. A significant error was found in the ArcGIS derived EGM96 orthometric heights range between ±6.9 meters. In addition, interpolation of low-resolution geoid data also produces significant biases depending on geographic location and the number of the interpolation data point. The bias was maximum negative in the central part of Tibetan Plateau and Himalaya. Therefore, estimation of orthometric height similar to NGA/NASA model precision is necessary for comparison of DEMs for natural resources management, 3D modelling and glaciers mass balance mainly in the mountainous regions. [Termes IGN] riveRésumé : (auteur) The lack of safe drinking water worldwide has drawn the attention of decision makers to riverbank filtration (RBF) for its many advantages in purifying surface water. This study provides an overview of the hydrogeologic, fluvial, and environmental influences on the performance of RBF systems and aims to develop a model for RBF site selection. Using multi-attribute utility theory (MAUT), this study structured the RBF siting problem and assessed a multiplicative utility function for the decision maker. In a case study, geostatistical methods were used to acquire the necessary data and geographic information systems (GIS) were used to screen sites suitable for RBF implementation. Those suitable sites were then evaluated and ranked using the multi-attribute utility model. The result showed that sites can be identified as most preferred among the selected suitable sites based on their expected utility values. This study definitively answers the question regarding the capability of MAUT in RBF site selection. Further studies are needed to verify the influences of the attributes on the performance of RBF systems. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] vaseRésumé : (Auteur) Estimations of the soil surface water contents and distributions play a key role in the ecological, environmental, and topographical investigations for intertidal mudflats. However, existing techniques have limitations. Long-range terrestrial laser scanners (TLSs) can record the co-located intensity value which refers to a measure of the backscattered laser from each scanned point. Most long-range TLSs emit near-infrared lasers that can be strongly absorbed by water. Thus, the intensity values can be used as proxies for water contents. In this study, the intensity data of long-range TLSs are corrected for the incidence angle and distance effects to quantitatively estimate the soil surface water contents of intertidal mudflats. A case study for a mudflat in Chongming Island, Shanghai, China, is conducted. Results indicate that compared with traditional techniques, the corrected intensity data of long-range TLSs are extremely effective data sources for a quick, accurate, and detailed estimation of water contents for large-area mudflats. The estimation root mean square error is approximately 3%. Furthermore, the 3D distributions of the water contents can be accurately mapped by combining the point cloud of the mudflats to potentially analyze the intrinsic association among water contents and topography, vegetation coverage, and habitation of creatures in mudflats. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) We develop a new geographical cellular automata (CA) modeling framework, named UrbanCA, through reconstructing the essential CA structure and incorporating nonspatial, spatial, and heuristic approaches. The new UrbanCA is featured by 1) the improvement of the CA modeling framework by reformulating relationships among CA components, 2) the development of two scaling parameters to adjust the effects of transition probability and neighborhood, 3) the incorporation of a variety of statistical and heuristic methods to construct transition rules, and 4) the inclusion of urban planning regulations and spatial heterogeneities to project future urban scenarios. To illustrate the effectiveness of UrbanCA, we calibrate a CA model using artificial bee colony (ABC) to simulate the past urban patterns and predict future scenarios in Shanghai of China. The results show that UrbanCA under different scaling parameters is comparable to CA-Markov (as a reference model) concerning the accuracy of the end-state and change simulations, and is better than CA-Markov regarding the driving factor’s ability to explain the modeling outcomes. UrbanCA provides more choices compared to existing CA software packages, and the models are readily calibrated elsewhere to simulate the dynamic urban growth and assess the resulting natural and socioeconomic impacts.
