[Termes IGN] Wuhan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) This study proposes a novel morphological building index (MBl) for automatic building extraction from high-resolu-tion remotely sensed imagery. The basic idea of MBl is to build a relationship between the implicit characteristics of buildings (e.g., brightness, size, and contrast) and the properties of morphological operators (e.g., reconstruction, granulometry, and directionality). Buildings are extracted by performing a threshold on the MBl feature image. Subsequently, the shape features, such as area and length width ratio, are used to refine the binary building map. In order to validate the proposed algorithm, a comparative study was performed between MBl, a recently developed texture-derived built-up presence index (PanTex), and the widely used object-based approach. Experiments were conducted on a multispectral GeoEye-1 image, covering a study area of 5.5 km by 5.3 km in Hongshan district of Wuhan, central China. In experiments, MBl achieved satisfactory results and outperformed other algorithms in terms of both accuracies and visual inspection. The effect: of parameters of mbi were also analyzed in detail, includ-ing directions, sizes and the binaryzation threshold. [Termes IGN] voie ferréeRésumé : (Auteur) This paper provides an overview of the accuracy standards, specifications, and recent advances of engineering survey operations for the design and construction of railway tunnels in Hong Kong. It covers geodetic control, deformation monitoring surveys, detail mapping, geometric modelling, setting-out, as-built surveys and total quality management (TQM). Recent advances include an integrative approach to: (1) combine measurements collected by geodetic and geotechnical systems including interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) in monitoring ground displacements and structural deformation at local and regional scales; (2) map geospatial data into computer aided design (CAD) formats and geographic information systems (GIS) by both conventional and mobile surveying systems; (3) collect as-built data of railway tracks and tunnels by positioning instruments, track sensors and laser scanners together; (4) incorporate Outsource Plan into the TQM system under ISO 9001:2008. [Termes IGN] précision millimétriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Wall painting plays an important role in the culture relics of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, P.R. China. A novel approach of generating a high-resolution orthoimage of the wall painting is proposed. Since the photographic object is nearly flat and also the forward overlap between adjacent images is smaller than 60 percent, the main difficulty to be resolved is the high correlation problem among the unknowns. Improved models of relative orientation and bundle adjustment with virtual constraints have been developed to resolve the high correlation problem. A Voronoi diagram of projective footprints is applied to automatically determine the mosaic lines of ortho-rectified images. The color quality of the generated orthoimage is improved through global minimization of the color differences among overlapped images. The experimental results show that the proposed approach has great potential for conservation of wall paintings with sub-millimeter to millimeter precision. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) The first step in the preservation of monuments and historic buildings is to completely survey and map the target; this is followed by digitised documentation for future research, reference or rebuild. With the help of point-cloud mapping and scanning technology, the problems of manual measurement and documentation can be solved fast and efficiently. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) Although the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) onboard the NASA Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite was not designed for urban applications, its 3-D measurement capability over the globe makes it a nice feature for consideration in monitoring urban heights. However, this has not been previously done. In this paper, we report some preliminary assessment of the GLAS data for building height and density estimation in a suburb of Beijing, China. Building heights can be directly calculated from a GLAS data product (GLA14). Because GLA14 limits height levels to six in each ground footprint, we developed a new method to remove this restriction by processing the raw GLAS data. The maximum heights measured in the field at selected GLAS footprints were used to validate the GLAS measurement results. By assuming a constant incident energy and surface reflectance within a GLAS footprint, the building density can be estimated from GLA14 or from our newly processed GLAS data. The building density determined from high-resolution images in Google Earth was used to validate the GLAS estimation results. The results indicate that the newly developed method can produce more accurate building height estimation within each GLAS footprint (R2 = 0.937, rmse = 6.4 m, and n = 26) than the GLA14 data product (R2 = 0.808, rmse = 11.5 m, and n = 26). However, satisfactory estimation results on building density cannot be obtained from the GLAS data with the methods investigated in this paper. Forest cover could be a challenge to building height and density estimation from the GLAS data. It should be addressed in future research.
