[Termes IGN] Vienne (capitale Autriche)Résumé : (auteur) Mapping and monitoring of habitats are requirements for protecting biodiversity. In this study, we investigated the benefit of combining airborne (laser scanning, image-based point clouds) and satellite-based (Sentinel 1 and 2) data for habitat classification. We used a two level random forest 10-fold leave-location-out cross-validation workflow to model Natura 2000 forest and grassland habitat types on a 10 m pixel scale at two study sites in Vienna, Austria. We showed that models using combined airborne and satellite-based remote sensing data perform significantly better for forests than airborne or satellite-based data alone. For frequently occurring classes, we reached class accuracies with F1-scores from 0.60 to 0.87. We identified clear difficulties of correctly assigning rare classes with model-based classification. Finally, we demonstrated the potential of the workflow to identify errors in reference data and point to the opportunities for integration in habitat mapping and monitoring. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) Quantification of regional methane (CH4) gas emission in the paddy fields is critical under climate warming. Mechanism models generally require numerous parameters while empirical models are too coarse. Based on the mechanism and structure of the widely used model CH4MOD, a GIS-based Regional CH4 Emission Calculation (GRMC) method was put forward by introducing multiple sources of remote sensing images, including MOD09A1, MOD11A2, MOD15A2H as well as local water management standards. The stress of soil moisture condition (f(water)) on CH4 emissions was quantified by calculating the redox potential (Eh) from days after flooding or falling dry. The f(water)-t curve was calculated under different exogenous organic matter addition. Combining the f(water)-t curve with local water management standards, the seasonal variation of f(water) was obtained. It was proven that f(water) was effective in reflecting the regulation role of soil moisture condition. The GRMC was tested at four Eddy Covariance (EC) sites: Nanchang (NC) in China, Twitchell (TWT) in the USA, Castellaro (CAS) in Italy and Cheorwon (CRK) in Korea and has been proven to well track the seasonal dynamics of CH4 emissions with R2 ranges of 0.738–0.848, RMSE ranges of 31.94–149.22 mg C/m2d and MBE ranges of −66.42- -14.79 mg C/m2d. The parameters obtained in Nanchang (NC) site in China were then applied to the Ganfu Plain Irrigation System (GFPIS), a typical rice planting area of China, to analyse the spatial-temporal variations of CH4 emissions. The total CH4 emissions of late rice in the GFPIS from 2001 to 2013 was in the range of 14.47–20.48 (103 t CH4-C). Ts caused spatial variation of CH4 production capacity, resulting in the spatial variability of CH4 emissions. Overall, the GRMC is effective in obtaining CH4 emissions from rice fields on a regional scale. [Termes IGN] traçabilitéRésumé : (auteur) With the rapid development of urbanization, heavy metal pollution of soil has received great attention. Over-enrichment of heavy metals in soil may endanger human health. Assessing soil pollution and identifying potential sources of heavy metals are crucial for prevention and control of soil heavy metal pollution. This study introduced a spatial distribution - principal component analysis (SD-PCA) model that couples the spatial attributes of soil pollution with linear data transformation by the eigenvector-based principal component analysis. By evaluating soil pollution in the spatial dimension it identifies the potential sources of heavy metals more easily. In this study, soil contamination by eight heavy metals was investigated in the Lintong District, a typical multi-source urban area in Northwest China. In general, the soils in the study area were lightly contaminated by Cr and Pb. Pearson correlation analysis showed that Cr was negatively correlated with other heavy metals, whereas the spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed that there was strong association in the spatial distribution of eight heavy metals. The aggregation forms were more varied and the correlation between Cr contamination and other heavy metals was lower. The aggregation forms of Mn and Cu, Zn and Pb, on the other hand, were remarkably comparable. Agriculture was the largest pollution source, contributing 65.5 % to soil pollution, which was caused by the superposition of multiple heavy metals. Additionally, traffic and natural pollution sources contributed 17.9 % and 11.1 %, respectively. The ability of this model to track pollution of heavy metals has important practical significance for the assessment and control of multi-source soil pollution. [Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) Adapting forests to climate change is a critical issue for forest management. It requires an understanding of climate effects on forest systems and the ability to forecast how these effects may change over time. We used Spanish Second National Forest Inventory data and the SIMANFOR platform to simulate the evolution of CO2 stock (CO2 Mg · ha−1) and accumulation rates (CO2 Mg · ha−1 · year−1) for the 2000–2100 period in pure and mixed stands managed under different Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) in Spain. We hypothesized that (1) the more optimistic climate scenarios (SSP1 > > SSP5) would have higher CO2 stock and accumulation rates; (2) mixed stands would have higher CO2 stock and accumulation rates than pure stands; and (3) the behavior of both variables would vary based on forest composition (conifer–conifer vs. conifer–broadleaf). We focused on Pinus sylvestris L., and its main mixtures with Pinus nigra, Pinus pinaster, Fagus sylvatica and Quercus pyrenaica. The SSP scenarios had correlating CO2 stock values in which SSP1 > SSP2 > SSP3 > SSP5, ranging from the most optimistic (SSP1) to the most pessimistic (SSP5). Though pure stands had higher CO2 stock at the beginning, differences with regard to mixed stands were drastically reduced at the end of the simulation period. We also found an increase in the aboveground CO2 proportion compared to belowground in conifer–broadleaf mixtures, while the opposite trend occurred in conifer–conifer mixtures. Overall CO2 accumulation rates decreased significantly from the beginning to the end of the simulation period, but our results indicated that this decline would be less drastic in mixed stands than in pure ones. At the end of the simulation period, CO2 accumulation rates were higher in mixed stands than in pure stands for all mixtures, fractions (aboveground and belowground) and SSPs. Knowing the evolution of mixed forests in different climate scenarios is relevant for developing useful silvicultural guidelines in the Mediterranean region and optimizing forestry adaptation strategies. Better understanding can also inform the design of management measures for transitioning from pure stands to more resource efficient, resistant and resilient mixed stands, in efforts to reduce forest vulnerability in the face of climate change. This work highlights the importance and benefits of mixed stands in terms of CO2 accumulation, stand productivity and species diversity.
