[Termes IGN] piétonRésumé : (auteur) Systematic monitoring of recreational use in vulnerable ecosystems is crucial to balance human needs and site capacities. Recently, publicly available digital data, including Global Navigation Satellite System-based Volunteered Geographic Information, gained attention as a potential resource depicting visitor movement. However, there is a need to critically assess its reliability for visitor monitoring across countries, regions and available databases. Our research evaluates the usability of GNSS-based VGI-data obtained from three common platforms: GPSies, Outdooractive, and Komoot for assessing the spatial distribution of hikers in the Bavarian Forest National Park. A total sample of 1742 GNSS-tracks uploaded between 2013 and 2018 were compared across data platforms. Additionally, available systematic field counts, carried out between 2013 and 2014 (11 Eco-Counter sensors), were compared to GNSS-based VGI data uploaded within the corresponding period. The comparisons at individual and collective levels (route lengths, kernel density, optimized hotspot analysis along with fishnet-based counts of GNSS-tracks) showed similarities between VGI data platforms. Data obtained from GPSies and Outdooractive displayed a higher correlation with each other than with those obtained from Komoot. Also, for GPSies, there was a significant positive correlation between VGI-data and field count data. Data sample of Outdooractive and Komoot within the specified spatio-temporal frame was too small to compare with available field count data. We highlight the necessity of systematic validation of GNSS-based VGI data resources, being complementary rather than the primary data source in visitor monitoring and recreation planning. Also, systematic long-term visitor monitoring using other methods is crucial to assess the validity of novel data resources, such as GNSS-based VGI. En cause : les sécheresses récurrentes et les conditions climatiques, difficiles pour les arbres mais aussi propices aux insectes xylophages. Les forêts du Grand Est et de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté sont les plus touchées, les moins impactées étant les régions du sud. Châtaignier, épicéa commun et frêne sont les essences les plus affectées. Aujourd’hui, le bilan entre la croissance des arbres, leur mortalité naturelle et les prélèvements de bois par l’homme se traduit par une augmentation du volume de la forêt de 1,6m3/ha/an. En effet, malgré tout, la surface de la forêt augmente, atteignant 17,1 millions d’hectares en 2021 – soit une extension de 21 % depuis 1985. Qu’en sera-t-il de l’inventaire forestier de l’année 2022 (à paraître fin 2023), marquée par de terribles incendies pendant l’été ? Près de 67000 ha sont partis en fumée l’année dernière. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) The Grain for Green Project (GGP) is an essential ecological system protection and restoration measure which can effectively improve the ecological environment. Constructing ecological monitoring system and obtaining ecological parameters can scientifically evaluate the ecological benefits of the GGP, consolidate the existing achievements, take the road of high-quality development, and promote the construction of a national ecological civilization. Firstly, an index system was constructed based on the factors driving forest ecosystem functions, involving climate (thermal and moisture conditions), vegetation types, and typical ecological zones. Then, GIS spatial analysis technology and the merging criteria index method were used to identify GGP ecological function monitoring zones. Finally, according to the scale of the project, the spatial distribution of existing stations, typical ecological zones, and the density of monitoring stations, the eco-efficiency monitoring stations, were arranged in an overall way, which constitutes the GGP ecological monitoring network. The results showed that the ecological function monitoring zones of GGP included 77 divisions, and 99 ecological monitoring stations (20 compatible level-1 stations, 31 compatible level-2 stations, 18 professional level-1 stations, and 30 professional level-2 stations) were arranged. Among them, 83 are located in national major ecosystem protection and restoration engineering areas (NMEPREA), 79 in national ecological fragile areas (NEFA), 41 in national ecological barrier areas (NEBA), and 58 in national key ecological function areas (NKEFA). The proportion of types of NMEPREA, NEFA, NEBA, and NKEFA covered by monitoring is 66.7%, 100%, 100%, and 76%, respectively. The ecological monitoring system of GGP can not only meet the monitoring needs of the GGP but also effectively monitor the effectiveness of protection and restoration of typical ecological zones. In addition, this study can provide a methodological basis for other countries or ecological projects to build a more scientific and reasonable ecological monitoring system. [Termes IGN] tsunamiRésumé : (auteur) In Indonesia, tsunamis are frequent events. In 2000–2016, there were 44 tsunami events in Indonesia, with financial losses reaching 43.38 trillion. In 2018, a tsunami occurred in the Sunda Strait due to the eruption of the Anak Krakatau Volcano, which caused many fatalities and much building damage. This study aimed to detect the building damage in the Labuan District, Banten Province. Machine learning methods were used to detect building damage using random forest with object-based techniques. No previous research has combined selected predictors into scenarios; hence, the novelty of this study is combining various random forest predictors to identify the extent of building damage using 14 predictor scenarios. In addition, field surveys were conducted two years and nine months after the tsunami to observe the changes and efforts made. The results of the random forest classification were validated and compared with three datasets, namely xBD, Copernicus, and field survey data. The results of this study can help classify the level of building damage using satellite imagery to improve mitigation in tsunami-prone areas. Usage of harvested wood products (HWP) can extend the carbon cycle by retaining carbon as well as preventing new fossil emission via substitution. We compared carbon balance of different management strategies of birch spruce mixed stands over an eight-year period: unmanaged, representing a decision of prolonged rotation, and managed, representing a decision of final harvest of birch and retention of spruce for continuous forest cover and regeneration harvest. Management resulted in a higher contribution of mixed stands to climate change mitigation, if the carbon stock (CS) in biomass as well carbon balance (CB) of wood product is jointly considered in comparison to no management (prolonged rotation). Assortment structure plays an important role in CB of HWP, therefore a practice ensuring higher outcome of longer-lasting wood products are beneficial to climate change mitigation.
