[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Many real world problems can be expressed as optimisation problems. Solving this kind of problems means to find, among all possible solutions, the one that maximises an evaluation function. One approach to solve this kind of problem is to use an informed search strategy. The principle of this kind of strategy is to use problem-specific knowledge beyond the definition of the problem itself to find solutions more efficiently than with an uninformed strategy. This kind of strategy demands to define problem-specific knowledge (heuristics). The efficiency and the effectiveness of systems based on it directly depend on the used knowledge quality. Unfortunately, acquiring and maintaining such knowledge can be fastidious. The objective of the work presented in this paper is to propose an automatic knowledge revision approach for systems based on an informed tree search strategy. Our approach consists in analysing the system execution logs and revising knowledge based on these logs by modelling the revision problem as a knowledge space exploration problem. We present an experiment we carried out in an application domain where informed search strategies are often used: cartographic generalisation. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) The paper investigates methodical questions on the analyses and evaluation of automated generalised maps. The maps are produced with commercially available out-of-the-box generalisation systems, in a way that every system was tested by several persons on four test cases. The requirements on the generalised maps were described by cartographic constraints in a formal way. In addition, manually generalised maps were provided to give further reference information for the tester. The analyses of the generalised maps are to be based on empirical and automated evaluation methods. The paper will present these evaluation methods in detail with objectives, related research, how the methods are realised and expected outcomes. Possible interchanges and synergies between the evaluation methods will also be described. The work published within this paper contributes to research on formal descriptions of cartographic requirements on generalised maps. It supports the development of methods for the situation and context dependent application of generalisation functionality and serves on the evaluation of existing generalisation products, to derive future research and development

[Termes IGN] représentation multipleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a new approach to combining multi-representation databases with the generalization and update processes. It leads to a tightly integrated model which is a part of the existing cartographic GIS expand. The approach is based on the mathematical concept of relations and, in particular, on three different types of relations: horizontal (within one resolution), vertical (between different resolutions), and update. Horizontal relations allow the representation of relationships between features within one resolution. Examples are partitions, neighborhoods, and topology. The vertical relation represents the relationship between features of different resolutions. This originates from a generalization or matching process. The update relation describes temporal changes of features. After a detailed theory about the relation types introduced, the paper continues with a discussion of their similarities and differences, with a focus on implementation in a multi-representation database. A prototype demonstrates the generalization of buildings and roads from vector data at 1: 25,000 to 1: 50,000 scales. The paper ends with conclusions and an outlook on further research tasks.
