[Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the integration of vector data into a digital terrain model (DTM) to perform flood risk analysis. The integration of geographic 2D vector objects into a DTM usually raises data coherence issues. To address these issues, 2D objects are transformed into 2,5D objects and then integrated into an enriched DTM in a coherent way. We focus our research on objects describing civil engineering works such as roads, dikes, or embankments. Such a coherent integration of 2D objects into a DTM can change flood behaviour simulations deeply and thus predicted damage areas. The first part of this paper describes the general methodology used for road integration. Simple placing of 2D linear roads on a DIM generally gives unrealistic results. Our approach consists in transforming 2D linear data into 2.5D surfaces describing terrain in a more realistic way. We transform 2D linear roads into 2.5D surfacic roads by assigning them a width, and computing their elevation. The altitude of each point of the road is computed with the help of the DTM and the altimetric attribute of nodes, under slope and regularity constraints. Then, we compute a new DTM, resulting from the original DTM constrained by the 2.5D roads. We observe that this integration alters the DTM locally. The second part reports on the analysis of a DTM after the integration of roads. We base our analysis on two main applications: visualisation and hydrology. As roads were initially captured at a much higher scale than the DTM, the creation of a microrelief is observed. This microrelief may contain artefacts, which could create uncertain areas. The study of these areas helps us to define the range of scale and the validation of such methods. By comparing the results obtained by hydrological simulation with our refined DTM and with the initial DTM, we highlight the precision and coherence gained when using this enriched DTM. With our algorithms. the new DTM is more accurate on certain keyareas such as dikes or roads, which are civil engineering works that are very important for flood simulations. The third part focuses on the implementation of these algorithms in an experimental Java GIS platform, linked to an Oracle 9i database. Then this part report on the analysis of our TIN enrichment. The original TIN is locally modified. Some inconsistencies between the original TIN and the vector data are fixed thanks to the integration of new 2.5D information. For example, in the enriched TIN, rivers follow the talwegs. Without 2.5D vector information, talwegs are interpolated from contour lines and are not consistent with the river network. As a conclusion, we suggest that our work can be extended to fit other applications, such as trajectory computation. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) It has been widely recognized that, in order to automate the map generalization process, cartographic knowledge needs to be formalized. One method of knowledge acquisition is to analyse existing maps. Previous studies have concentrated on describing the phenomena on the surface. A typical example is the percentage change of the number of symbols or the percentage of open space on smaller scale maps. This study aims to go one step further, i.e. to analyse the association such changes with thematic attributes. In this study, road features on topographic maps of Hong Kong from 1:1000 to 1:200 000 are studied; six types of thematic attributes, i.e. 'type', 'length', 'width', 'number of lanes', 'number of traffic ways' and 'connectivity', are considered; and two statistic parameters, Lambda and Somers' Delta, are employed. It has been discovered that the dependence of road elimination on these attributes occurs in the following order : type (0.73), length (0.53), number of lanes (0.48), number of traffic directions (0.41), width (0.36) and connectivity (0.19). If these numbers are normalized into percentages, then these values become: type (27%), length (20%), number of lanes (18%), number of traffic directions (15%), width (13%) and connectivity (7%). Such results could be used to formulate an overall weight to determine whether a particular road should be deleted, merged or combined in the generalization process, in order to retain a certain proportion of roads at a smaller scale. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the automatic extraction of the road network in dense urban areas using a few-meters resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The first part presents the proposed method, which is an adaptation of previous work to the specific case of urban areas. The major modifications are 1) the clique potentials of the Markov random field that extracts the road network are adapted and 2) a multiscale framework is used. Results on shutle mission and aerial SAR images with different resolutions are presented. The second part is dedicated to road extraction combining two SAR images taken with different flight directions (orthogonal and antiparallel passes), and the obtained improvement is analyzed.
