[Termes IGN] voie de communicationRésumé : (Auteur) The existing road-network models based on the 2D link-node of roadway centrelines have inhibited lane-oriented network flow analysis and multi-dimensional inventory management in complicated 3D urban environments. This paper proposes a hierarchical lane-oriented 3D road-network model (HL-3DRNM), with a unified modelling language (UML) diagram. HL-3DRNM is a non-planar topological model with the support of a 3D lane ribbon cartographic display, which is characterized by: (1) multiple topological and cartographic representations and various abstraction levels (street, road segment, carriageway and lane); and (2) referenced multi-dimensional road information (point, line, area and volume) at lane level. HL-3DRNM provides solid mathematical foundations for a more detailed inventory management, effective network analysis and realistic navigation in the increasingly complicated 3D urban transportation systems. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Spatial optimization problems, such as route selection, usually involve multiple, conflicting objectives relevant to locations. An ideal approach to solving such multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs) is to find an evenly distributed set of Pareto-optimal alternatives, which is capable of representing the possible trade-off among different objectives. However, these MOPs are commonly solved by combining the multiple objectives into a parametric scalar objective, in the form of a weighted sum function. It has been found that this method fails to produce a set of well spread solutions by disregarding the concave part of the Pareto front. In order to overcome this ill-behaved nature, a novel adaptive approach has been proposed in this paper. This approach seeks to provide an unbiased approximation of the Pareto front by tuning the search direction in the objective space according to the largest unexplored region until a set of well-distributed solutions is reached. To validate the proposed methodology, a case study on multiobjective routing has been performed using the Singapore road network with the support of GIS. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the approach. Widely used land cover raster data, such as the National Land Cover Database (NLCD), were however not collected with sufficient spatial resolution to allow adequate representation of small-scale features such as roadways. Using tools available in ArcGIS software, vector road files were obtained from the Accident Location Information System (ALIS) at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and converted to raster data to create spatially explicit representations of impervious area associated with roadways. Comparison of this new coverage with the NLCD results in an increase of approximately 3120 km2 of newly identified impervious coverage for New York State (NYS) not present in the NLCD, representing a 244 percent increase from the transportation class in the NLCD. Of the land cover that would be reclassified to roadway using this methodology, approximately 40 percent would be reclassified from forest land, 31 percent from agricultural land, and 28 percent from the residential land cover classifications. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Automated or semi-automated feature extraction from remotely collected, large scale image data has been a challenging issue in digital photogrammetry for many years. In the feature extraction field, fusing different types of data to provide complementary information about the objects is becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we present a newly developed approach for the automatic extraction of urban area road networks from a true orthoimage and lidar assuming the road network to be a semi-grid pattern. The proposed approach starts from the subdivision of a study area into small regions based on homogeneity of the dominant road directions from the true orthoimage. Each region’s road candidates are selected with a proposed free passage measure. This process is called the “acupuncture” method. Features around the road candidates are used as key factors for an advanced “acupuncture method” called the region-based acupuncture method. Extracted road candidates are edited to avoid collocation with non-road features such as buildings and grass fields. In order to produce a building map for the prior step, a first-last return analysis and morphological filter are used with the lidar point cloud. A grass area thematic map is generated by supervised classification techniques from a synthetic image, which contains the three color bands from the true orthoimage and the lidar intensity value. Those non-road feature maps are used as a blocking mask for the roads. The accuracy of the result is evaluated quantitatively with respect to manually compiled road vectors, and a completeness of 80 percent and a correctness of 79 percent are obtained with the proposed algorithm on an area of 1,081,600 square meters.
