[Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) The Multiangle Imaging SpectroRadiometer, one of five science instruments aboard NASA's Terra spacecraft, was launched into earth orbit in December 1999. Acquisition of earth imagery began in February 2000, and the quality of the data is excellent. Overall, MISR has been performing superbly, though the instrument exhibits several idiosyncrasies, some of which were anticipated prior to launch. Details regarding the inflight performance of the instrument system are presented. [Termes IGN] télédétection électromagnétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In spite of recent optimistic growth prognoses, the commercial success of earth observation is hindered primarily by the inability of satellite operators to generate and consequently to deliver in time the requested products and services to the customer. This however, is vital for th establishment of any kind of service. a potential customer will only change his internal procedures and infrastucture if the avaibility of the alternative products is guaranteed. Consequently, a commercially operated system must aim primarily at offering guaranteed avaibility of information. A satisfactory avaibility of information on large areas of interest when using optical sensors can only be achieved by minimizing the time between the individual revisits and providing sufficient capacity. This understanding led to the definition of the RapidEye concept and the RapidEye imaging system. [Termes IGN] QuickbirdRésumé : (Auteur) As discussed in my article on imagers published in the april/may 2000 issue of Geoinformatics, over the last two or three years, the previous rather simple distinction between (i) analogue film cameras producing very high-resolution frame images from aiborne platforms ; and (ii) digital line scanners producing continuous strips of linescan imagery of markedly lower resolution from spaceborne platforms, is being replaced by a much more complex scenario. This is based on the very varied mixtures of technologies, geometries and platforms that are now becoming available through the introduction of the new types of digital imagers capable of being operated both from airborne and spaceborne platforms.
