[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The paper focuses on comparing accuracies obtained with photogrammetry and laser scanning in building extraction. The objective of the EuroSDR Building Extraction comparison was to evaluate the quality, accuracy, feasibility and economical aspects of semi automatic building extraction based on photogrammetric techniques with the emphasis on commercial and/or operative systems, semi-automatic and automatic building extraction techniques based on high density laser scanner data and semi-automatic and automatic building extraction techniques based on integration of laser scanner data and aerial images. The project consists of three test sites by the Finnish Geodetic Institute (FGI), namely Senaatti, Hermanni and Espoonlahti, and one test site by the Institut Geographique National (IGN), namely Amiens. For each test site following data was provided to the partners: aerial images, camera calibration and image orientation information, ground control point coordinates and jpg images of point locations (not for Amiens), laser scanner data and cadastral map vectors of selected buildings. Participants were requested to create vectors of 3D city models. 3D-models were obtained from 11 participants. The paper confirms with experiments that laser scanning is superior in deriving building heights, extracting planar roof faces and ridges of the roof, whereas photogrammetry and aerial images are superior in building outline and length determination. Building reconstruction strategies from traditional stereo images may highly be enhanced using such data together with. The aim of this paper is to propose an efficient algorithm for extracting 3D planar primitives from a laser survey over urban areas. It is based on a normal driven random sample consensus (ND-RANSAC) which consists of randomly selecting sets of three points within laser points sharing the same orientation of normal vectors. A robust plane is then estimated with laser points that are likely to belong to the real roof facet. The number of draws is managed automatically with a statistical analysis of the distribution of normal vectors within an approximation of the Gaussian sphere of the scene. Promising results are presented with laser data acquired over the city of Amiens, France. The aim of this paper is to investigate the potential of using extracted features from a Lidar 3D point cloud for data fusion purpose through an hybrid image segmentation algorithm. The general context of this study is the building reconstruction. We first describe an efficient algorithm for extracting 3D planar primitives from a laser survey over urban areas. It is based on a normal driven random sample consensus (ND-RANSAC) which consists of randomly selecting sets of three points within laser points sharing the same orientation of normal vectors. A robust plane is then estimated with laser points that are likely to belong to the real roof facet. The number of random draws is managed automatically with a statistical analysis of the distribution of normal vectors within an approximation of the Gaussian sphere of the scene. These 3D facets are then introduced into an image segmentation algorithm based on a bottom-up region merging scheme. Initial regions are computed by a watershed transform onto the gradient of the aerial image. Regions adjacency are represented with a Region Adjacency Graph (RAG). Series of successive merging generates a hierarchy of RAGs where edges are mutual inclusion relationships. The process terminated when the entire image is represented as a single region. A cut in the hierarchy provides a desired image partition. Results of the facet extractions as well as of the segmentation are shown and discussed. Data storage capacity and processing speeds available today has made it possible to digitally sample and store the entire reflected waveform, instead of only extracting the coordinates. Research has shown that return waveforms can give even more detailed insights into the vertical structure of surface objects, surface slope, roughness and reflectivity than the conventional systems. One of the most important advantages with registering the waveforms is that it gives the user the possibility to himself define the way range is calculated in post-processing. In this thesis different techniques have been tested to visualize a waveform data set in order to get a better understanding of the waveforms and how they can be used to improve methods for classification of ground objects. A pulse detection algorithm, using the EM algorithm, has been implemented and tested. The algorithm output position and width of the echo pulses. One of the results of this thesis is that echo pulses reflected by vegetation tend to be wider than those reflected by for example a road. Another result is that up till five echo pulses can be detected compared to two echo pulses that the conventional system detects. Note de contenu : Introduction

Elle s'appuie sur les compétences fort développées de ses employés spécialisés tant dans la topographie que la photogrammétrie ; en outre, elle est le seul bureau d'études en France, à posséder un scanner 3D de type RIEGL. Cet outil, en plus de sa fonction première de scannage, fournit également des photographies numériques. L'orientation de ses photos est effectuée par l'appareil lui-même grâce à une calibration faite en début de chaque campagne. Les paramètres d'orientation des photos prises indépendamment sont calculés par un module développé au sein même de l'entreprise. A l'heure actuelle, la production d'orthophoto, spécialité de la société, est réalisée par un des cogérants. En temps homme, cette production s'élève à une ou deux journées, selon la complexité de l'objet scanné. Cette situation présente deux inconvénients majeurs. En effet, cet investissement temps est beaucoup trop élevé, d'une part et d'autre part ce pôle d'activité, indispensable à la société, est par voie de fait, complètement tributaire d'une seule personne. Or dans une structure, qui bien qu'en plein essor et fort dynamique, emploie six "productifs", cette situation de dépendance peut rapidement devenir problématique en cas d'absence de la personne qui gère cette activité (déplacement en France ou à l'étranger pour la réalisation d'un chantier par exemple). Prenant conscience de cette lacune et dans un réel souci de rentabilité, la société ATM3D, a donc désiré mettre au point un logiciel dont l'objectif repose sur la production d'orthophotos. 0utre les aspects techniques (importations de fichiers, etc), une des volontés premières était que d'autres employés de la société puissent être capables d'utiliser ce logiciel permettant ainsi de libérer les compétences du cogérant.
