Sub-wavelength distances between adjacent rods and sub-wavelength rod diameters are assumed throughout the frequency band of operation and this leads to a severe challenge due to need of super-resolution within the present micro-structure, well beyond the Rayleigh criterion. A wealth of solution methods is investigated and comprehensive numerical simulations illustrate pros and cons, completed by processing laboratory-controlled experimental data acquired on a micro-structure prototype in a microwave anechoic chamber. These methods, which differ per a priori information accounted for and consequent versatility, include time-reversal, binary-specialized contrast-source and sparsity-constrained inversions, and convolutional neural networks possibly combined with recurrent ones. [Termes IGN] volcanRésumé : (Auteur) The All-Weather Volcano Topography Imaging Sensor remote sensing instrument is a custom-built millimeter-wave (MMW) sensor that has been developed as a practical field tool for remote sensing of volcanic terrain at active lava domes. The portable instrument combines active and passive MMW measurements to record topographic and thermal data in almost all weather conditions from ground-based survey points. We describe how the instrument is deployed in the field, the quality of the primary ranging and radiometric measurements, and the postprocessing techniques used to derive the geophysical products of the target terrain, surface temperature, and reflectivity. By comparison of changing topography, we estimate the volume change and the lava extrusion rate. Validation of the MMW radiometry is also presented by quantitative comparison with coincident infrared thermal imagery. The book features more than 540 illustrations that offer a greater understanding of various waveforms, and other two- and three-dimensional functions, to help engineers more accurately analyze radar system performance. The effects of pulse shaping on transmitter stability and spectra are discussed - a topic that is becoming more and more important to today's engineers. Radar practitioners get a number of critical atmospheric models to help them with their challenging work. Each chapter ends with a performance section, showing the effect of that particular aspect on the complete radar system budget for range, accuracy, and stability. [Termes IGN] surveillance météorologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) With the launch of the NOAA-15 satellite in May 1998, a new generation of passive microwave sounders was initiated. The Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU), with 20 channels spanning the frequency range from 23-183 GHz, offers enhanced temperature and moisture sounding capability well beyond its predecessor, the Microwave Sounding Unit (MSU). In addition, by utilizing a number of window channels on the AMSU, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expanded the capability of the AMSU beyond the original purpose and developed a new suite of products that tare generated through the Microwave Surface and Precipitation Products System (MSPPS). This includes precipitation rate, total precipitable water, land surface emissivity, and snow cover. Details on the current status of the retrieval algorithms (as of September 2004) are presented. These products are complimentary to similar products obtained from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSMI) and the Earth Observing Aqua Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E). Due to the close orbital equatorial crossing time between NOAA-16 and the Aqua satellites, comparisons between several of the MSPPS products are made with AMSR-E. Finally, several application examples are presented that demonstrate their importance to weather forecasting and analysis, and climate monitoring. [Termes IGN] propagation troposphériqueRésumé : (Auteur) Besides instrumental influences, the tropospheric delay modelling is the major error source in geodetic VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry). Most critical there are the mapping functions which map the hydrostatic and wet zenith delays down to lower elevations. Hence in the past few years, numerical weather models have been investigated to improve the accuracy of tropospheric delay modelling. The VMF (Vienna Mapping Function) is derived from the meteorological profiles above the VLBI stations by exact ray-tracing, exploiting the full information of the numerical weather models. On the other hand, the IMF (Isobaric Mapping Function) by Niell (2001) applies intermediate parameters on a global grid, which certainly allows the determination of IMF on the whole Earth, i.e. also for all stations of other techniques (GPS, Glonass, ...), but gives away valuable information by the interpolation on the grid and the transition to intermediate parameters. For the investigations presented here, data from the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) are used to calculate the coefficients of the mapping functions. The analysis of VLBI-experiments since January 2002 shows that the repeatability of baseline lengths with IMF and especially VMF is improved considerably compared to using the Niell Mapping Functions (NMF, Niell, 1996). Furthermore, mainly VMF will take advantage of future improvements of the numerical weather models. Note de contenu : 1 Einleitung
