[Termes IGN] VRMLRésumé : (auteur) From 2015 to 2017, the ROSETTA‐Ice project comprehensively mapped Antarctica's Ross Ice Shelf using IcePod, a newly developed aerogeophysical platform. The campaign imaged the ice‐shelf surface with lidar and its internal structure with ice‐penetrating radar. The ROSETTA‐Ice data was combined with pre‐existing ice surface and bed topography digital elevation models to create the first augmented reality (AR) visualisation of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, using the Microsoft HoloLens. The ROSETTA‐Ice datasets support cross‐disciplinary science that aims to understand 4D processes, namely the change of 3D ice‐shelf structures over time. The work presented here uses AR to visualise this dataset in 3D and highlights how AR can be simultaneously a useful research tool for interdisciplinary geoscience as well as an effective device for science communication education. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) In the recent years, there has been increased interest in using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to study and monitor glaciers and ice sheets for glaciological and climate change research. This paper describes the estimation of ice extinctions through the modeling of polarimetric interferometric SAR (Pol-InSAR) coherences as a combination of a surface contribution (from the snow-firn interface and wind-induced sastrugi features) and a volume response. Ground-to-volume scattering ratios derived from a novel polarimetric decomposition are used in conjunction with Pol-InSAR coherence magnitudes to invert the extinction of the ice layer. The inversion is performed for experimental airborne Pol-InSAR data at L-band and P-band acquired by the German Aerospace Center's (DLR) E-SAR system over the Austfonna ice cap in Svalbard, Norway, as part of the 2007 IceSAR campaign. Extinction dependences on frequency and glacier facie are investigated, and validation is performed comparing ground-penetrating radar data to SAR backscatter and extinction values. Best extinction results are obtained at shallow incidence angles with small wavenumbers and for low ground-to-volume scattering ratios. For swath areas in mid range to far range, accuracies of 25% in extinction are anticipated when averaging over 100 effective looks for a four-baseline inversion constraining solutions to vertical wavenumbers of 0.01 Numéro de notice : A2013-305 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2012.2220855 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2012.2220855 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=32443

[Termes IGN] transformation de FourierRésumé : (Auteur) Recent papers have described 18year trends and interannual oscillations in the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice extents, areas, and enclosed open water areas based on newly formulated 18.2year ice concentration time series. They were obtained by finetuning the sea ice algorithm tie points individually for each of the four sensors used to acquire the data. In this paper, these analyses are extended to an examination of the intrinsic modes of these time series, obtained by means of empirical mode decomposition, which handles both nonstationary and nonlinear data as found in these time series, unlike filtering techniques based on Fourier analysis. Our analysis centers on periodicities greater than one year. Quasibiennial and quasiquadrennial oscillations similar to those observed earlier with a multitaperfiltered Fourier analysis technique were also observed here. The intrinsic modes described here feature frequency as well as amplitude modulation within their respective frequency bands. The slowest varying mode in the Antarctic sea ice cover has slightly less than a full period during this 18.2year time period, but the change in sign of its curvature hints at a modal period of about 19 years, with important implications for the trend analyses published earlier.
