[Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (auteur) In this study, a new data-adaptive network design methodology called k-SRBF is presented for the spherical radial basis functions (SRBFs) in regional gravity field modeling. In this methodology, the cluster centers (centroids) obtained by the k-means clustering algorithm are post-processed to construct a network of SRBFs by replacing the centroids with the SRBFs. The post-processing procedure is inspired by the heuristic method, Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis Technique (ISODATA), which splits clusters within the user-defined criteria to avoid over- and under-parameterization. These criteria are the minimum spherical distance between the centroids and the minimum number of samples for each cluster. The bandwidth (depth) of each SRBF is determined using the generalized cross-validation (GCV) technique in which only the observations within the radius of impact area (RIA) are used. The numerical tests are carried out with real and simulated data sets to investigate the effect of the user-defined criteria on the network design. Different bandwidth limits are also examined, and the appropriate lower and upper bandwidth limits are chosen based on the empirical signal covariance function and user-defined criteria. Also, additional tests are performed to verify the performance of the proposed methodology in combining different types of observations, such as terrestrial and airborne data available in Colorado. The results reveal that k-SRBF is an effective methodology to establish a data-adaptive network for SRBFs. Moreover, the proposed methodology improves the condition number of normal equation matrix so that the least-squares procedure can be applied without regularization considering the user-defined criteria and bandwidth limits. [Termes IGN] système de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) Unlike modern maps, geometric maps lack a coordinate system and contain unsystematic geometric inaccuracies. This paper illuminates four aspects concerning the problem of uniting geographical information technology with old geometric maps. These are as follows: first, the origin of and geometric qualities in the representation of objects in geometric maps; second, the distortions originating from measurement techniques; third, the assumption that it is possible to find points that are the same over time for rectification in Geographic Information System (GIS); and, fourth, the extrapolation of unsystematic geometric distortions when using GIS techniques without any knowledge of the present unsystematic distortions in a map. The article presents the background of Swedish geometric maps and a hypothetical example is used to present the principle problems of using GIS techniques to rectify geometric maps. The conclusion of the paper is that systematic and unsystematic geometric distortions need to be identified and handled separately. [Termes IGN] télémètre laser terrestreRésumé : (auteur) The target-based point cloud registration and calibration of terrestrial laser scanners (TLSs) are mathematically modeled and solved by the least-squares adjustment. However, usual stochastic models are simplified to a large amount: They generally employ a single point measurement uncertainty based on the manufacturers’ specifications. This definition does not hold true for the target-based calibration and registration due to the fact that the target centroid is derived from multiple measurements and its uncertainty depends on the detection procedure as well. In this study, we empirically investigate the precision of the target centroid detection and define an empirical stochastic model in the form of look-up tables. Furthermore, we compare the usual stochastic model with the empirical stochastic model on several point cloud registration and TLS calibration experiments. There, we prove that the values of usual stochastic models are underestimated and incorrect, which can lead to multiple adverse effects such as biased results of the estimation procedures, a false a posteriori variance component analysis, false statistical testing, and false network design conclusions. In the end, we prove that some of the adverse effects can be mitigated by employing the a priori knowledge about the target centroid uncertainty behavior. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (Auteur) There are several computational approaches and methods to produce the complete solutions of geometry problems and they give sufficient computational strength for geodetic networks. Every approach and method has their advantages and drawbacks. Barycentric coordinates, also called areal coordinates, provide a new knock approach for geometry problems of such networks. This coordinate system offers triangular finite elements which are quite different from the usual Cartesian coordinate system. Actually, barycentric coordinates are a natural system of coordinates for the affine geometry. The modified approach for the affine transformation and barycentric coordinate system has been introduced and discussed, respectively in the study whether the affine transformation improves the results deteriorated by geometry of a GPS network. For this aim, general affine transformation of six-parameters between Eurasia Fixed Reference Frame (EUREF) and International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) for Turkish Permanent Global Positioning System Network (TPGN) has been computed. The affine transformation results show that the effects of the first and second translation parameters are in negative and positive directions, respectively. The third and sixth parameters are almost constant, on the other hand the fourth and fifth have a very small positive effect. Additionally, three triangular networks of GPS stations, at different locations in Turkey as a numerical example of barycentric coordinates, have also been presented. In the numerical example, the coordinate values of EUREF and ITRF have some differences after the decimal point, but the barycentric coordinates have very small amount of differences (sixth digit after decimal) which proves that the modified approach is meaningful.
