It is argued that the distinction between these three graphical means of expression became the basis for considering the nature of design rules for the next 400 years. In a departure from previous studies, this paper applies a combination of cartographic pragmatics and Gestalt theory with relation to the practical utilisation of graphical means of expression available in copperplate technology. While the importance of Gestalt theory and cartographic pragmatics has previously been highlighted in research papers and in textbooks, this study is the first to apply these two perspectives with relation to sixteenth and seventeenth century maps. A lidar point cloud and optical image are two typical data that need to be integrated for data assimilation and information retrieval. This paper aims to solve the registration problem of aerial imagery and airborne lidar data in desert areas where traditional registration methods have difficulties in identifying registration primitives. In many deserts, such as the Sahara in Africa and Gobi in China, we observe that there are unevenly distributed desert bushes, which can be used as cues for registration. In this paper, we propose a registration approach using the centroids of bushes as registration primitives. This approach employs similar triangles created from both centroids as the evidence for matching and verifies the registration by the RANSAC algorithm. Experiments using data taken from the Dunhuang Gobi Desert in China show the registration surface model visually, and at the same time quantifies the deviation error, which corroborates that the proposed registration method is effective and feasible in desert areas. [Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) The problem of choosing an optimal reference system for the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) is studied for both the rigorous solution which is a simultaneous stacking (removal of the reference system at each data epoch and implementation of a linear in time coordinate model) for all techniques, as well as for the usual numerically convenient separation into a set of individual stackings one for each technique and a final combination step for the derived initial coordinates and velocities. Two approaches are followed, an algebraic and a kinematic one. The algebraic approach implements the inner constraints, which minimize the sum of squares of the unknown parameters, as well as partial inner constraints, which minimize the sum of squares of a subset of the unknown parameters. In the kinematical approach the optimal minimal constraints are derived by requiring the minimization of the apparent coordinate variations: (a) with respect to the origin by imposing constant coordinates for the network barycenter, (b) with respect to orientation by imposing zero relative angular momentum for the network points conceived as mass points with equal mass and (c) with respect to the scale by imposing constant mean quadratic size (involving the distances of stations from their barycenter).
