The approach assumes that roofs are composed of several spatial polygons, and that they can be obtained by extracting all or even only some of them if the model is known. In view of this assumption, innovative algorithms for semi-automatic spatial polygon extraction were developed. These algorithms are based on a 2D approach to solving the 3D reality. Based on these algorithms, an interactive and semi-automatic modelbased approach for automation in roof extraction was developed. The approach is composed of two phases: manual (interactive) and automatic. In the manual (interactive) phase, the operator needs to choose an Expanded Parameterized Model (EPM) from a knowledge base and select one pre-prepared Interactive Option for Extraction (IOE) of the roof. Then, the operator needs to point according to the guidelines of the chosen option in the left image space. In the automatic phase, the selected spatial polygons are extracted, the parameters of the selected model are calculated and the roof is reconstructed. The approach was examined and the results we obtained had standard accuracy. It appears that the approach can be implemented on many types of roofs and under diverse photographic conditions. In this paper, the algorithms, the experiments and the results are detailed. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Web service technologies can be used to establish an interoperable framework between different generalisation systems. In a previous article three categories of generalisation web services were identified, including support services, operator services and processing services. This paper focuses on the category of support services. In a service-based generalisation system, the purpose of support services is to assist the generalisation process by providing auxiliary measures, procedures and data structures that allow the representation of structural cartographic knowledge. The structural knowledge of the spatial and semantic context and the modelling of structural and spatial relationships is critical for the understanding of the role of cartographic features and thus for automated generalisation. Support services should extract and model this knowledge from the raw data and make it available to other generalisation operators. On the one hand the structural knowledge can be expressed by enriching map features with additional geometries or attributes. On the other hand, there exist various hierarchical and non-hierarchical relationships between map features, many of which can be represented by graph data structures. After a brief introduction to the interoperable web service framework, this paper proposes a taxonomy of generalisation support services and discusses its elements. It is then shown how the complex output of such services can be represented for use with web services and stored in a reusable fashion. Finally, the utilisation of support services is illustrated on four implementation examples of support services that also highlight the interactions with the generalisation operators that use these auxiliary services. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Many real world problems can be expressed as optimisation problems. Solving this kind of problems means to find, among all possible solutions, the one that maximises an evaluation function. One approach to solve this kind of problem is to use an informed search strategy. The principle of this kind of strategy is to use problem-specific knowledge beyond the definition of the problem itself to find solutions more efficiently than with an uninformed strategy. This kind of strategy demands to define problem-specific knowledge (heuristics). The efficiency and the effectiveness of systems based on it directly depend on the used knowledge quality. Unfortunately, acquiring and maintaining such knowledge can be fastidious. The objective of the work presented in this paper is to propose an automatic knowledge revision approach for systems based on an informed tree search strategy. Our approach consists in analysing the system execution logs and revising knowledge based on these logs by modelling the revision problem as a knowledge space exploration problem. We present an experiment we carried out in an application domain where informed search strategies are often used: cartographic generalisation.
