[Termes IGN] surcharge hydrologiqueRésumé : (auteur) The continuous redistribution of water mass involved in the hydrologic cycle leads to deformation of the solid Earth. On a global scale, this deformation is well explained by redistribution in surface loading and can be quantified to first order with space-based gravimetric and geodetic measurements. At the regional scale, however, aquifer systems also undergo poroelastic deformation in response to groundwater fluctuations. Disentangling these related but distinct 3D deformation fields from geodetic time series is essential to accurately invert for changes in continental water mass, to understand the mechanical response of aquifers to internal pressure changes as well as to correct time series for these known effects. Here, we demonstrate a methodology to accomplish this task by considering the example of the well-instrumented Ozark Plateaus Aquifer System (OPAS) in central United States. We begin by characterizing the most important sources of signal in the spatially heterogeneous groundwater level dataset using an Independent Component Analysis. Then, to estimate the associated poroelastic displacements, we project geodetic time series corrected for surface loading effects onto orthogonalized versions of the groundwater temporal functions. We interpret the extracted displacements in light of analytical solutions and a 2D model relating groundwater level variations to surface displacements. In particular, the relatively low estimates of elastic moduli inferred from the poroelastic displacements and groundwater fluctuations may be indicative of surficial layers with a high fracture density. Our findings suggest that OPAS undergoes significant poroelastic deformation, including highly heterogeneous horizontal poroelastic displacements. Nevertheless, their physical and biogeochemical processes have been long influenced by anthropogenic pressures. A complete and regular monitoring of reservoir water quality in the context of current climate change, eutrophication and higher water demand, has become crucial for optimal management strategies. Recent progress in the satellite remote sensing field made it possible to enhance data acquisition on a synoptic scale and to perform retrospective studies. Satellite data can complement measurements however over a limited depth of the water column. In addition, three-dimensional (3D) numerical models which integrate physical, chemical and biological processes can fill temporal gaps and extend the information into the vertical domain. In this context, this PhD thesis focuses on the combined use of techniques and data derived from field monitoring, satellite remote sensing and 3D modeling. The overreaching objective of this work is to propose a combined approach for surveying the water quality of medium-sized reservoirs (~ 14 km2).The study site is Karaoun Reservoir, Lebanon (semi-arid climate, surface 12 km2, capacity 110 hm3). It mainly serves for hydropower however with possibly a future drinking water production. It is eutrophic and has been experiencing regular events of toxic cyanobacterial blooms. The following methodological approach was adopted:i) In situ measurements were regularly collected from spring to fall for the calibration and the validation of remote sensing algorithms and of the model.ii) In order to calibrate and validate remote sensing algorithms, Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 imagery were atmospherically corrected using a single-channel algorithm and the 6SV code respectively.a. Four algorithms from literature for deriving surface temperature were validated using Landsat 8 thermal data.b. A previously calibrated and validated Sentinel-2 algorithm was applied to retrieve chlorophyll-a concentrations.c. An empirical algorithm was calibrated and validated in order to retrieve transparency from Sentinel-2 data.iii) In order to conduct a retrospective analysis of surface temperature, the validated single channel algorithm was applied to a series of Landsat images from 1984 to 2018.iv) In order to reproduce the hydrodynamics and ecological processes, including cyanobacterial biomass in space and time, the Delft3D model was configured, calibrated and validated for summer and fall. The spatial distribution of surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentrations from the satellite and the model were investigated. The results of this study revealed that, among the four tested algorithms, the single channel algorithm dependent on atmospheric water vapor content and lake water emissivity yielded the best estimations of surface temperature. Using this validated algorithm, the retrospective analysis of surface temperature did not reveal any warming trend over the 1984-2018 period at the study site. Compared to in situ profiles, the Delft3D model represented well the evolution of the water level fluctuations, and the time and vertical distribution of temperature and phytoplankton biomass. Satellite data and model simulations showed minor spatial heterogeneities of surface temperature ( Note de contenu : General introduction

[Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (auteur) Radar data at C-band has shown great potential for the monitoring of soil and canopy hydric conditions of wheat crops. In this study, the C-band Sentinel-1 time series including the backscattering coefficients σ0 at VV and VH polarization, the polarization ratio (PR) and the interferometric coherence ρ are first analyzed with the support of experimental data gathered on three plots of irrigated winter wheat located in the Haouz plain in the center of Morocco covering five growing seasons. The results showed that ρ and PR are tightly related to the canopy development. ρ is also sensitive to soil preparation. By contrast, σ0 was found to be widely linked to changes in surface soil moisture (SSM) during the first growth stages when Leaf Area Index remains moderate ( Numéro de notice : A2020-337 Affiliation des auteurs : UGE-LASTIG+Ext (2020- ) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2020.112050 Date de publication en ligne : 24/08/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2020.112050 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=96939

[Termes IGN] vingtième siècleRésumé : (Auteur) Fluvial corridor quality assessment requires that historical data be collected at a regional scale. In this article, our goal is to assess potential map resources to explore riverscape changes at a regional network scale and to define key issues in using an automated vectorization protocol to characterize such changes on such a large scale. We consider IGN’s Nouvelle Carte de France a potentially good resource for our objective of two-date (oldest + actual vector database) comparisons on 1:20,000–1:25,000 scale maps, notably when applied at a regional scale. The French IGN corpus is a good example of topographic maps that were produced in the twentieth century in Europe with fairly homogeneous data over a whole national territory. Moreover, the digitization and georeferencing processes applied by IGN are very accurate. The evolution of conventional features is not as significant for the hydrographic theme and should not be a problem for automatic vectorization. The potential temporal coverage is from 1922 to 1993, but the complexity of the sheet divisions, partial revisions, and the heterogeneity of coverage over time prevent multidate analysis. [Termes IGN] température au solRésumé : (auteur) The ground-based microwave radiometer (MWR) retrieves atmospheric profiles with a high temporal resolution for temperature and humidity up to a height of 10 km. Such profiles are critical for understanding the evolution of climate systems. To improve the accuracy of profile retrieval in MWR, we developed a deep learning approach called batch normalization and robust neural network (BRNN). In contrast to the traditional backpropagation neural network (BPNN), which has previously been applied for MWR profile retrieval, BRNN reduces overfitting and has a greater capacity to describe nonlinear relationships between MWR measurements and atmospheric structure information. Validation of BRNN with the radiosonde demonstrates a good retrieval capability, showing a root-mean-square error of 1.70 K for temperature, 11.72% for relative humidity (RH), and 0.256 g/m 3 for water vapor density. A detailed comparison with various inversion methods (BPNN, extreme gradient boosting, support vector machine, ridge regression, and random forest) has also been conducted in this research, using the same training and test data sets. From the comparison, we demonstrated that BRNN significantly improves retrieval accuracy, particularly for the retrieval of temperature and RH near the surface.
