[Termes IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) With the proliferation of mobile computing, the ability to index efficiently the movements of mobile objects becomes important. Objects are typically seen as moving in two-dimensional (x, y) space, which means that their movements across time may be embedded in the three-dimensional (x, y, t) space. Further, the movements are typically represented as trajectories, sequences of connected line segments. In certain cases, movement is restricted; specifically, in this paper, we aim at exploiting that movements occur in transportation networks to reduce the dimensionality of the data. Briefly, the idea is to reduce movements to occur in one spatial dimension. As a consequence, the movement occurs in two-dimensional (x, t) space. The advantages of considering such lower-dimensional trajectories are that the overall size of the data is reduced and that lower-dimensional data is to be indexed. Since off-the-shelf database management systems typically do not offer higher-dimensional indexing, this reduction in dimensionality allows us to use existing DBMSes to store and index trajectories. Moreover, we argue that, given the right circumstances, indexing these dimensionality-reduced trajectories can be more efficient than using a three-dimensional index. A decisive factor here is the fractal dimension of the network-the lower, the more efficient is the proposed approach. This hypothesis is verified by an experimental study that incorporates trajectories stemming from real and synthetic road networks. [Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (Auteur) The management of moving objects has been intensively studied in recent years. A wide and increasing range dose applications has to deal with spatial objects whose position changes continuously over time, called moving objects. The main interest of these applications is to efficiently store and query the positions of these continuously moving objects. To achieve this goal, index structures are required. The main proposals of index structures for moving objects deal with unconstrained 2-dimensional movement. Constrained movement is a special and a very important case of object movement. For example, cars move in roads and trains in railroads. In this paper we propose a new index structure for moving objects on networks, the MON-Tree. We describe two network models that can be indexed by the MON-Tree. The first model is edge oriented, i.e., the network is of nodes and edges and there is a polyline associated to each edge. The second one is more suitable for transportation networks and is route oriented, i.e., the network consists of routes and junctions. In this model, a polyline also serves as a representation of the routes. We propose the index in terms of the basic algorithms for insertion and querying. We test our proposal in an extensive experimental evaluation with generated data sets using as underlying networks the roads of Germany. In our tests, the MON-Tree shows good scalability and outperforms the competing index structures in updating (index creation) as well as in querying. [Termes IGN] requête spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) Geographic Information Retrieval is concerned with retrieving documents in response to a spatially related query. This paper addresses the ranking of documents by both textual and spatial relevance. To this end, we introduce multi-dimensional scattered ranking, where textually and spatially similar documents are ranked spread in the list, instead of consecutively. The effect of this is that documents close together in the ranked list have less redundant information. We present various ranking methods of this type, efficient algorithms to implement them, and experiments to show the outcome of the methods. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) This document describes the Po-tree, a new indexing structure for spatiotemporal databases with soft real time constraints. This is crucial for risk management, particularly for the monitoring of volcanic risk. For example, the Popocatepetl, a Mexican volcano, is closely monitored through an network of spatially referenced sensors. They all send back their measurements to a central spatiotemporal database. The Po-tree will therefore be able to index huge quantities of data in a restricted amount of time. It will also be able to favor the newer data, which are queried more frequently. While most structures tend to favor the temporal aspect over the spatial, or tend to consider time as another spatial dimension, the Po-tree offers an alternative. It does so by combining two different structures, for spatial and temporal dimensions respectively, stressing the spatial aspect, and linking every source of information to a new temporal sub-tree. While mobility is not yet supported, experimentation and comparisons have shown interesting potential in the structure.
