[Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Discovery of suitable web services is a crucial task in Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). In this work, we develop a novel approach to the discovery of geoprocessing services (WPS). Discovery requests and Web Processing Services are annotated as conjunctive queries in a logic programming (LP) language and the discovery process is based on Logic Programming query containment checking between these descriptions. Besides the types of input and output, we explicitly formalise the relation between them and hence are able to capture the functionality of a WPS more precisely. The use of Logic Programming query containment allows for effective reasoning during discovery. Furthermore, the relative simplicity of the semantic descriptions is advantageous for their creation by non-logics experts. The developed approach is applicable in the Web Service Modeling Framework (WSMF), a state-of-the-art semantic web service framework. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) An increasing number of emerging web database applications deal with large georeferenced data sets. However, exploring these large data sets through spatial queries can be very time and resource intensive. The need for interactive spatial queries has arisen in many applications such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for efficient decision-support. In this paper, we propose a new interactive spatial query processing technique for GIS. We present a family of the Incremental Refining Spatial Join (IRSJ) algorithms that can be used to report incrementally refined running estimates for aggregate queries while simultaneously displaying the actual query result tuples of the data sets sampled so far. Our goal is to minimize the time until an acceptably accurate estimate of the query result is available (to users) measured by a confidence interval. Our approach enables more interactive data exploration and analysis. While similar work has been done in relational databases, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first work using this approach in GIS. We investigate and evaluate different sampling methodologies through extensive experimental performance comparisons. Experiments on both real and synthetic data show an order of magnitude response time improvement relative to the final answer obtained when using a full R-tree join. We also show the impact of different index structures on the performance of our algorithms using three known sampling methods. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Both Geographic Information Systems and Information Retrieval have been very active research fields in the last decades. Lately, a new research field called Geographic Information Retrieval has appeared from the intersection of these two fields. The main goal of this field is to define index structures and techniques to efficiently store and retrieve documents using both the text and the geographic references contained within the text. We present in this paper two contributions to this research field. First, we propose a new index structure that combines an inverted index and a spatial index based on an ontology of geographic space. This structure improves the query capabilities of other proposals. Then, we describe the architecture of a system for geographic information retrieval that defines a workflow for the extraction of the geographic references in documents. The architecture also uses the index structure that we propose to solve pure spatial and textual queries as well as hybrid queries that combine both a textual and a spatial component. Furthermore, query expansion can be performed on geographic references because the index structure is based in an ontology. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) Intelligent query answering in Location-based Services refers to their capability to provide mobile users with personalized and contextualized answers. Personalization is expected to lead to answers that better match user’s interests, as inferable from the user’s profile. Contextualization aims at not selecting answers that for some reason would not be appropriate at the time and place of the user query. These goals are beyond the current state of art in LBS, or are provided based on ad hoc solutions specific to the application at hand. This paper reports on the results of an investigation aiming at defining the knowledge infrastructure that should be developed within the LBS to make it capable of returning intelligent answers. We first discuss the data management features that make LBS different from other query answering systems. Next we propose a data infrastructure that builds on the idea of modular ontologies. We explain how the relevant knowledge may be incrementally set up and dynamically maintained based on an application-independent approach. Last we show how this knowledge is used to reformulate user’s queries via personalized and contextualized rewriting.
