[Termes IGN] véhicule automobileRésumé : (Auteur) Concerns about airspace security in Afghanistan literally brought a LiDAR-based survey operation down to the ground. Fashioning a truck-back system, Canadian engineers used GPS and inertial measurement to time and locate the laser-ranging "hits" that would construct a digital elevation model of the badly damaged highway. The return to an earlier prototype now affords a quick, cost-effective solution for other survey situations. [Termes IGN] sableRésumé : (Auteur) The University of Florida (UF) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) are collaborating on a program to improve the quantitative monitoring of Florida's beaches, which are subject to erosion and catastrophic damage from seasonal storms. Each year, a segment of the Florida coastline will be mapped using Airborne Laser Swath Mapping (ALSM) technology (also referred to as LIDAR). The ALSM surveys, conducted by UF staff and students, nominally extend from a few hundred feet offshore to about 1500 ft inland. GPS observations are manually collected by FDEP personnel and used to generate profiles across the beach for comparison with profiles generated from the ALSM observations. Results from the first survey segment completed under the program, covering approximately 35 miles of beaches in northeast Florida, are presented. Additional results that demonstrate the ability to precisely quantify changes in beach topography and volume using ALSM data are also presented. Un SIG n'était pas de trop pour gérer ces spécificités qui font de la cité savoyarde l'une des plus belles de France. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Geovisualization offers powerful tools, techniques, and strategies to present, explore, analyze, and manage geoinformation. Interactive geovirtual environments such as virtual 3D maps or virtual 3D city models, however, raise the question how to control geodata usage and distribution. We present a concept for embedding digital rights in geovisualizations. It is based on geo-documents, an object-oriented scheme to specify a wide range of geovisualizations. Geo-documents are assembled by building blocks categorized into presentation, structure, interaction, animation, and Digital Rights Management (DRM) classes. DRM objects allow for defining permissions and constraints for all objects contained in geo-documents. In this way, authors of geovisualizations can control how their geo-documents are used personalized, and redistributed by users. The strengths of the presented concept include the ability to integrate heterogeneous 2D and 3D geodata within a compact design scheme and the ability to cope with privacy, security, and copyright issues. Embedded digital rights in geovisualizations can be applied to improve the usability of geodata user interfaces, to implement publisher-subscriber communication systems for geodata, and to establish business model for geodata trading systems.
