[Termes IGN] traitement automatique de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Observing the world-wide concentration and distribution of ozone is important for monitoring the evolution of the ozone layer, to derive the amount of UV, to provide ozone and UV forecasts and to improve weather forecasting. Monitoring ozone is the primary function of the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment. Each day, space missions download, from space to ground, many raw images that are stored in ground stations located all over the world. How to process this data resource in real time - or almost real time - and effectively share spatial information among the remote sensing community is a pressing task. Grid computing can provide access to a globally distributed computing environment via authentication, authorization, negotiation and security. It can create a computational environment handling many PetaBytes of geographically distributed data, tens of thousands of heterogeneous computing resources and thousands of simultaneous users from many research institutions. It can provide a powerful tool for sharing both remote sensing data and processing middleware. This paper introduces the concept of grid computing, followed by its applications for atmospheric ozone retrieval. The special remote sensing data analysis note for the Spatial Information Grid (SIG) is addressed in detail. A series of remotely sensed image processing middleware is shown. Experience shows that near-realtime products, such as maps of ozone, from the processing and analysis of remotely sensed data are possible. [Termes IGN] données mailléesRésumé : (Auteur) The comparison of spatial patterns is recognized as an important task in landscape ecology especially when spatially explicit simulation modeling or remote sensing is applied. Yet, there is no agreed procedure for doing that, probably because different problems require different algorithms. We explored a variety of existing algorithms and modified some of them to compare grid-based maps with categorical attributes. A new algorithm based on the "expanding window" approach was developed and compared to other known algorithms. The goal was to offer simple and flexible procedures for comparing spatial patterns in grid based maps that do not take into consideration object shapes and sizes of the maps. The difference between maps was characterized by three values: quantity, location, and distance between corresponding categories in the maps. Combinations of these indices work as good criteria to quantify differences between maps. A web-based survey was set up, in which participants were asked to grade the similarity of ten pairs of maps. These results were then used to compare how well the various algorithms can perform relative to the visual comparisons obtained; they were also used to calibrate existing algorithms. [Termes IGN] matriceRésumé : (Auteur) Fuzzy set map comparison offers a novel approach to map comparison. The approach is specifically aimed at categorical raster maps and applies fuzzy set techniques, accounting for fuzziness of location and fuzziness of category, to create a similarity map as well as an overall similarity statistic: the Fuzzy Kappa. To date, the calculation of the Fuzzy Kappa (or K-fuzzy) has not been formally derived, and the documented procedure was only valid for cases without fuzziness of category. Furthermore, it required an infinitely large, edgeless map. This paper presents the full derivation of the Fuzzy Kappa; the method is now valid for comparisons considering fuzziness of both location and category and does not require further assumptions. This theoretical completion opens opportunities for use of the technique that surpass the original intentions. In particular, the categorical similarity matrix can be applied to highlight or disregard differences pertaining to selected categories or groups of categories and to distinguish between differences due to omission and commission.
