[Termes IGN] visualisationRésumé : (Auteur) While many data sets carry geographic and temporal references, our ability to analyze these datasets lags behind our ability to collect them because of the challenges posed by both data complexity and tool scalability issues. This study develops a visual analytics approach that leverages human expertise with visual, computational, and cartographic methods to support the application of visual analytics to relatively large spatio-temporal, multivariate data sets. We develop and apply a variety of methods for data clustering, pattern searching, information visualization, and synthesis. By combining both human and machine strengths, this approach has a better chance to discover novel, relevant, and potentially useful information that is difficult to detect by any of the methods used in isolation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach by applying the Visual Inquiry Toolkit we developed to analyze a data set containing geographically referenced, time-varying and multivariate data for U.S. technology industries. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (auteur) Lidar 3D point cloud corresponds to the terrestrial topography, including true ground and objects belonging either to vegetated areas or to human made features. This paper deals with DTM (digital terrain model) production. First step filtering data into ground and off-ground points is based on a multi-resolution coarse-to-fine approach. The K-means algorithm is used in a hierarchical way that provides robust data filtering. The number of cluster splits is used to automatically qualify the filtering reliability. This point is rarely treated in previous works. Secondly, a regularization process over ground points generates an accurate DTM on a regular grid. The fine DTM is processed with ground points without using classical interpolation algorithms. In fact, a Markovian regularization minimizes a global energy that confronts the terrain regularity and the goodness of fit to the data. It also depends on the filtering reliability. Conclusive results are presented on vegetated and mountainous areas and provide realistic terrain models. [Termes IGN] mesure de la qualitéRésumé : (Auteur) In the past few years, 2D topographic databases have been completed in most industrialised countries. Most efforts in National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs) are now devoted to the update of such databases. Because it is generally carried out manually, by visual inspection of orthophotos, the updating process is time-consuming and expensive. The development of semiautomatic systems is thus of high interest for NMCAs. The obvious lack of expertise in the domain has driven EuroSDR to set up a test comparing different change detection approaches. In this paper, we limit the scope of the project to the imagery context. After describing input data, we shortly introduce the approaches of the working groups that have already submitted results. Preliminary results are assessed and a discussion enables to bring out first conclusions and directions. [Termes IGN] relation sémantiqueRésumé : (éditeur) The Association of Geographic Information Laboratories for Europe (AGILE) was established in early 1998 to promote academic teaching and research on GIS at the European level. AGILE seeks to ensure that the views of the geographic information teaching and research community are fully represented in the discussions that take place on future European - search agendas and it also provides a permanent scientific forum where geographic information researchers can meet and exchange ideas and - periences at the European level. In 2007 AGILE provided - for the first time since its existence - a book constituting a collection of scientific papers that were submitted as fu- papers to the annual AGILE conference and went through a competitive and thorough review process. Published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Geoinformation and Cartography this first edition was well received within AGILE and within the European Geoinformation Science com- nity as a whole. Thus, the decision was easily made to establish a Springer th Volume for the 11 AGILE conference held 2008 in Girona, Spain, and led to what you now hold in your hands.
