[Termes IGN] signal laserRésumé : (Auteur) Imputations of missing values and optimal smoothing with massive data arrays poses a computational challenge since ordinary kriging becomes infeasible. Imputation and smoothing with standard algorithms like inverse distance weighted nearest neighbour interpolation (IDW) and interpolation on triangulated irregular networks (TIN/IP) fail to incorporate the spatial structure and ignore information beyond the neighbourhood. Multiresolution spatial models (MRSM) or approximate kriging methods adapted to handling massive data sets can be expected to do better than IDW and TIN/IP in terms of mean square errors of prediction (MSEP). We illustrate a MRSM that is efficient, computationally fast, and easy to implement. In two forestry examples with imputation of LiDAR range values the MRSM achieved a lower MSEP than IDW, TIN/IP, and fixed ranked kriging. MRSM appear as especially attractive for the construction of a DTM from last return LiDAR pulses. A third example demonstrates MRSM for efficient smoothing. [Termes IGN] orthophotoplan numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) A software program has been developed to generate true orthophotographs using multispectral and lidar data. To accomplish this, the obscured points were first identified in the acquired conventional orthophotographs. Next, the obscured points were replaced with corresponding unobscured points from the neighbouring orthophotographs. Finally, the resulting orthophotographs were merged into a mosaic. This paper provides insight into the generation procedure, developed methods and results obtained in the course of the creation of the digital true orthophotograph. [Termes IGN] spécification de contenuRésumé : (Auteur) Ordnance Survey is the national mapping agency of Great Britain. We are always developing our product line and are currently investigating the addition of 3D data. In line with our role as a national mapping agency, the approach is to do this, such that any data is part of a coherent range of products that are sympathetic with the terrain and existing 2D topographic data, are of national cover and are maintained. Such intentions create unique challenges to a mapping agency. These challenges include: 1. Specification determination and an appropriate capture methodology. 2. Data modelling and storage of 3D data. 3. Maintenance of the database. 4. Supply of products in a useful format. This paper will discuss those issues most pertinent to the development of a potential 3D product within Ordnance Survey. Subsequently, a better understanding of the complexity of implementing a 3D dataset into a national mapping agency's product portfolio can be achieved. [Termes IGN] Ordnance Survey (UK)Résumé : (Auteur) Current trends, practices and related developments in the use of maps and information about geographic objects are outlined. The need for strategies including the Ordnance Survey GI Strategy, the UK Location Strategy, the Digital National Framework and INSPIRE to be better aligned to meet the growing needs of an information-based economy is discussed. Challenges to this transformation are identified.
