[Termes IGN] téléphone intelligentRésumé : (auteur) Crowdsourcing geographic information has been a massive phenomenon that took place over the last two decades and that changed dramatically the diffusion of geographic data in society. The availability and readiness of geographic information is paramount in practically all software systems and services and this is strongly determined by the drive of people putting energy in data collection and improvement. Understanding the motivations of people to participate in this process is fundamental to leverage the design of new systems able to increase satisfaction and productivity. The introduction of game mechanisms in geographic crowdsourcing is the theme that we face in this research. The so-called gamification of applications has been widely used as a stimulant for involving people in serious activities that are hidden behind the gaming façade. Cooperation and competition are key factors that are promoted through the game. We synthesize a conceptual model that collects the main gaming techniques tailored for geographic data and that is the basis for the development of a gamification library. As a proof of concept, we deploy an Android app for geometric data collection inside buildings and test it in a university setting. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (Auteur) Errors in individual tree detection and delineation affect diameter distribution predictions based on crown attributes extracted from the detected trees. We develop a methodology for circumventing these problems. The method is based on matching cumulative distribution functions of field measured tree diameter distributions and crown radii distributions extracted from airborne laser scanning data through individual tree detection presented by Vauhkonen and Mehtätalo (2015). In this study, empirical distribution functions and a monotonic, nonlinear model curve are introduced. Tree crown radius distribution produced by individual tree detection is corrected by a method taking into account that all trees cannot be detected. The evaluation is based on the ability of the developed model sequence to predict quadratic mean diameter and total basal area. The studied data consists of 36 field plots in a typical boreal managed forest area in eastern Finland. The suggested enhancements to the model sequence produce improved results in most of the test cases. Most notably, in leave-one-out cross-validation experiments the modified models improve RMSE of basal area 13% in the full data and RMSE of quadratic mean diameter and basal area 69% and 11%, respectively, in pure pine plots. Better modeling of the crown radius distribution and improved matching between crown radii and stem diameters add the operational premises of the full distribution matching. [Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Key message : The accuracy of remote sensing-based models of forest attributes could be improved by controlling the spatial registration of field and remote sensing data. We have demonstrated the potential of an algorithm matching plot-level field tree positions with lidar canopy height models and derived local maxima to achieve a precise registration automatically.
Context : The accuracy of remote sensing-based estimates of forest parameters depends on the quality of the spatial registration of the training data.
Aims : This study introduces an algorithm called RegisTree to correct field plot positions by matching a spatialized field tree height map with lidar canopy height models (CHMs).
Methods : RegisTree is based on a point (field positions) to surface (CHM) adjustment approach modified to ensure that at least one field tree position corresponds to CHM local maxima.
Results : RegisTree has been validated with respect to positioning errors and the performance of lidar-derived estimation of plot volume. Overall, RegisTree enabled to register field plots surveyed in a range of forest conditions with a precision of 1.5 m (± 1.23 m), but a higher performance for conifer plots, and a limited efficiency in homogeneous stands, having similar heights. Improved plot positions were found to have a limited impact on volume predictions under the range of tested conditions, with a gain up to 1.3%.
Conclusion : RegisTree could be used to improve the forest plot position from field surveys collected with low-grade GPS and to contribute to the development of processing chains of 3D remote sensing-based models of forest parameters.Numéro de notice : A2019-339 Affiliation des auteurs : LIF+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : FORET Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1007/s13595-019-0814-2 Date de publication en ligne : 02/04/2019 En ligne : http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s13595-019-0814-2 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=93373

[Termes IGN] surface planeRésumé : (auteur) We introduce a new method for the piecewise-planar approximation of 3D data, including point clouds and meshes. Our method is designed to operate on large datasets (e.g. millions of vertices) containing planar structures, which are very frequent in anthropic scenes. Our approach is also adaptive to the local geometric complexity of the input data. Our main contribution is the formulation of the piecewise-planar approximation problem as a non-convex optimization problem. In turn, this problem can be efficiently solved with a graph-structured working set approach. We compare our results with a state-of-the-art region-growing-based segmentation method and show a significant improvement both in terms of approximation error and computation efficiency.
