[Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) Hong Kong frequently suffers from multi-hazards such as floods, muddy-water flows and landslides induced by rainstorms. This study presents an improved multi criteria decision making (MCDM) approach with integrating the interval numbers into fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) to assess multi-hazard risks. To illustrate the efficiency of the improved MCDM method, the AHP, interval-FAHP and analytical network process (ANP) were incorporated into a geographical information system (GIS, abbreviated as AHP-GIS, interval-FAHP-GIS, and ANP-GIS) to assess the risks of multi-hazards (e.g., floods, muddy-water flows, and landslides) in Hong Kong. The assessed multi-risks indicated that the percentages of areas with a high risk of flood, muddy-water flow, and landslide were more than 15%, 17%, and 18%, respectively. The results demonstrated that MCDM methods considered multi-criteria contributions on multi hazards. Different assessment factors contributed different importance on different multi-hazard risks. The comparison indicates that interval-FAHP-GIS perform better than AHP-GIS and ANP-GIS in capturing high-risk areas. The interval-FAHP-GIS method adopts interval fuzzy numbers instead of crisp numbers in AHP-GIS to reflect the degree of importance of assessment factors, which increases the accuracy of the assessed multi-risks. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (auteur) Plausible urban growth projections aid in the understanding and treatment of multidisciplinary issues faced in society. In this work, we investigated the possible effects of train stations on urban growth by comparing urban projections from a cellular-automata-based land use change model, named SLEUTH, with versions (i.e. SLEUTsH and SLEUTsHGA introduced in this study) that can consider railway-induced urban growth and those (i.e. SLEUTH and SLEUTHGA) that do not. It was found that the influence of the railway stations on urban growth varied with time and according to each city. In general, railway stations induced urbanization in their immediate surroundings. However, edge growth, which is growth at the urban boundaries was slow in the first five years of the future prediction. As demonstrated by the higher urban growth rates simulated for the first few years in the SLEUTsH cases than the SLEUTH cases, the presence of railway stations will lead to more rapid urbanization in the 2040s. Mainly relying on publicly available GIS datasets, this work demonstrates the potential for modeling railway-induced urban growth on a global scale. The findings can be further confirmed with other cellular-automata models using a similar methodology. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) While cities around the world are increasingly promoting streets and public spaces that prioritize pedestrians over vehicles, significant data gaps have made pedestrian mapping, analysis, and modeling challenging to carry out. Most cities, even in industrialized economies, still lack information about the location and connectivity of their sidewalks, making it difficult to implement research on pedestrian infrastructure and holding the technology industry back from developing accurate, location-based Apps for pedestrians, wheelchair users, street vendors, and other sidewalk users. To address this gap, we have designed and implemented an end-to-end open-source tool— Tile2Net —for extracting sidewalk, crosswalk, and footpath polygons from orthorectified aerial imagery using semantic segmentation. The segmentation model, trained on aerial imagery from Cambridge, MA, Washington DC, and New York City, offers the first open-source scene classification model for pedestrian infrastructure from sub-meter resolution aerial tiles, which can be used to generate planimetric sidewalk data in North American cities. Tile2Net also generates pedestrian networks from the resulting polygons, which can be used to prepare datasets for pedestrian routing applications. The work offers a low-cost and scalable data collection methodology for systematically generating sidewalk network datasets, where orthorectified aerial imagery is available, contributing to over-due efforts to equalize data opportunities for pedestrians, particularly in cities that lack the resources necessary to collect such data using more conventional methods. P-Mapping was used to uncover indigenous knowledge on the changes in land ownership, land use rights and land-use types over ten years. The paper finds that properly trained local people can reliably delineate and indicate land rights and land uses in their environment on photomaps with little support from professionals. The experiment results show that PGIS can accelerate land adjudication processes on customary lands.
