[Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (auteur) The field of geographic information science has grown exponentially over the last few decades and, particularly within the context of the pervasiveness of the internet, bears witness to a rapid transition of its associated technologies from stand-alone systems to increasingly networked and distributed systems as geospatial information becomes increasingly available online. With its long-standing history for innovation, the field has adopted many disruptive technologies from the fields of computer and information sciences through this transition towards web geographic information systems (GIS); most interestingly in the context of this research is the limited uptake of semantic web technologies by the field and its associated technologies, the lack of which has resulted in a technological disjoint between these fields. As the field seeks to make geospatial information more accessible to more users and in more contexts through ‘self-service’ applications, the use of these technologies is imperative to support the interoperability between distributed data sources. This paper aims to provide insight into what linked data tooling already exists, and based on the features of these, what may be possible for the achievement of self-service GIS. Findings include what visualisation, interactivity, analytics and usability features could be included in the realisation of self-service GIS, pointing to the opportunities that exist in bringing GIS technologies closer to the user. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) In recent years, machine learning techniques have been increasingly applied to the assessment of various natural disasters, including landslides and floods. Machine learning techniques can be used to make predictions based on the relationships among events and their influencing factors. In this study, a machine learning approaches were applied based on landslide location data in a geographic information system environment. Topographic maps were used to determine the topographical factors. Additional soil and forest parameters were examined using information obtained from soil and forest maps. A total of 17 factors affecting landslide occurrence were selected and a spatial database was constructed. Naïve Bayes and Bayesian network models were applied to predict landslides based on selected risk factors. The two models showed accuracies of 78.3 and 79.8%, respectively. The results of this study provide a useful foundation for effective strategies to prevent and manage landslides in urban areas. [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) Iran is located on the Alpide earthquake belt, in the active collision zone between the Eurasian and Arabian plates. This issue makes Iran a country that suffers from geotechnical seismic hazards associated with frequent destructive earthquakes. Also, according to the rapid growth of population and demands for construction lifelines, risk assessment studies which should be carried out in order to reduce the probable damages are necessary. The most important destructive effects of earthquakes on lifelines are transient and permanent ground displacements. The availability of the map of the displacements caused by liquefaction, landslide, and surface fault rupture can be a useful reference for researchers and engineers who want to carry out a risk assessment project for each specific region of the country. In this study, these precise maps are produced and presented by using a considerable number of GIS-based analyses and by employing the HAZUS methodology. It is important to note that a required accuracy for risk assessment is approximately around the macro scale. So, in order to produce a suitable map for risk assessment goals, in terms of accuracy, the GIS-based analyses are employed to map all of Iran. [Termes IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The large volume and variety of data produced in the current Big Data era lead companies to seek solutions for the efficient data management. Within this context, NoSQL databases rise as a better alternative to the traditional relational databases, mainly in terms of scalability and availability of data. A usual feature of NoSQL databases is to be schemaless, i.e., they do not impose a schema or have a flexible schema. This is interesting for systems that deal with complex data, such as GIS. However, the lack of a schema becomes a problem when applications need to perform processes such as data validation, data integration, or data interoperability, as there is no pattern for schema representation in NoSQL databases. On the other hand, the JSON language stands out as a standard for representing and exchanging data in document NoSQL databases, and JSON Schema is a schema representation language for JSON documents that it is also leading to become a standard. However, it does not include spatial data types. From this limitation, this paper proposes an extension to JSON Schema, called JS4Geo, that allows the definition of schemas for geographic data. We demonstrate that JS4Geo is able to represent schemas of any NoSQL data model, as well as other standards for geographic data, like GML and KML. We also present a case study that shows how a data integration system can benefit of JS4Geo to define local schemas for geographic datasets and generate an integrated global schema. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Overdependence on and exploitation of forest resources have significantly transformed the natural reserve forest of Sundarban, which shares the largest mangrove territory in the world, into a great degradation status. By observing these, a most pressing concern is how much degradation occurred in the past, and what will be the scenarios in the future if they continue? To confirm the degradation status in the past decades and reveal the future trend, we took Sundarban Reserve Forest (SRF) as an example, and used satellite Earth observation historical Landsat imagery between 1989 and 2019 as existing data and primary data. Moreover, a geographic information system model was considered to estimate land cover (LC) change and spatial health quality of the SRF from 1989 to 2029 based on the large and small tree categories. The maximum likelihood classifier (MLC) technique was employed to classify the historical images with five different LC types, which were further considered for future projection (2029) including trends based on 2019 simulation results from 1989 and 2019 LC maps using the Markov-cellular automata model. The overall accuracy achieved was 82.30%~90.49% with a kappa value of 0.75~0.87. The historical result showed forest degradation in the past (1989–2019) of 4773.02 ha yr−1, considered as great forest degradation (GFD) and showed a declining status when moving with the projection (2019–2029) of 1508.53 ha yr−1 and overall there was a decline of 3956.90 ha yr−1 in the 1989–2029 time period. Moreover, the study also observed that dense forest was gradually degraded (good to bad) but, conversely, light forest was enhanced, which will continue in the future even to 2029 if no effective management is carried out. Therefore, by observing the GFD, through spatial forest health quality and forest degradation mapping and assessment, the study suggests a few policies that require the immediate attention of forest policy-makers to implement them immediately and ensure sustainable development in the SRF.
