Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) In the context of urban autonomous navigation systems for going from point A to point B, a practicable trajectory which takes into account drivable areas and permanent obstacles should be designed first. A robot should then follow this trajectory while avoiding not only dynamic obstacles such as cars and pedestrians but also permanent obstacles such as road sides and central islands. To this end, a robot must be aware of its exact position and must be informed of what its immediate environment is at all times. In dense urban areas, GNSS systems generally suffer from lack of precision due to masks and multipaths. Localization systems have to model these phenomena and even merge with vision based methods in order to obtain the high accuracies required in the process. In this paper, we propose an integrated geographic database enabling, on the one hand, the GNSS and vision based localization methods to obtain the required accuracy, and on the other, to provide the robots with information about its surroundings such as drivable surfaces and permanent obstacles. The database is comprised of 3D buildings, 3D roads and a set of 3D visual landmarks. Our system provides most of the information required for autonomous navigation in dense urban areas and has successfully been embedded in real experiments, thanks to a real-time querying system. [Termes IGN] outil d'aide à la décisionRésumé : (Auteur) Interactive 3D geo-browsers, also known as globe viewers, are popular, because they are easy and fun to use. However, it is still an open question whether highly interactive, 3D geographic data browsing, and visualization displays support effective and efficient spatio-temporal decision making. Moreover, little is known about the role of time constraints for spatio-temporal decision-making in an interactive, 3D context. In this article, we present an empirical approach to assess the effect of decision-time constraints on the quality of spatio-temporal decision-making when using 3D geo-browsers, such as GoogleEarth, in 3D task contexts of varying complexity. Our experimental results suggest that while, overall, people interact more with interactive geo-browsers when not under time pressure, this does not mean that they are also more accurate or more confident in their decisions when solving typical 3D cartometric tasks. Surprisingly, we also find that 2D interaction capabilities (i.e., zooming and panning) are more frequently used for 3D tasks than 3D interaction tools (i.e., rotating and tilting), regardless of time pressure. Finally, we find that background and training of tested users do not seem to influence 3D task performance. In summary, our study does not provide any evidence for the added value of using interactive 3D globe viewers when needing to solve 3D cartometric tasks with or without time pressure. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Determination of stem and crown biomass requires accurate measurements of individual tree stem, bark, branch and needles. These measurements are time-consuming especially for mature trees. Accurate field measurements can be done only in a destructive manner. Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) measurements are a viable option for measuring the reference information needed. TLS measurements provide dense point clouds in which features describing biomass can be extracted for stem form and canopy dimensions. Existing biomass models do not utilise canopy size information and therefore TLS-based estimation methods should improve the accuracy of biomass estimation. The main objective of this study was to estimate single-tree-level aboveground biomass (AGB), based on models developed using TLS data. The modelling dataset included 64 laboratory-measured trees. Models were developed for total AGB, tree stem-, living branch- and dead branch biomass. Modelling results were also compared with existing individual tree-level biomass models and showed that AGB estimation accuracies were improved, compared with those of existing models. However, current biomass models based on diameter-at-breast height (DBH), tree height and species worked rather well for stem- and total biomass. TLS-based models improved estimation accuracies, especially estimation of branch biomass. We suggest the use of stem curve and crown size geometric measurements from TLS data as a basis for allometric biomass models rather than statistical three-dimensional point metrics, since TLS statistical metrics are dependent on various scanning parameters and tree neighbourhood characteristics.
