[Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (Auteur) The existing binary voxel model algorithm for 3D building detection (3BD) from airborne lidar cannot distinguish between connected buildings and non‐buildings. As a result, a greyscale voxel structure model, using the discretised mean intensity of lidar points, is presented to support subsequent building detection in areas where buildings are adjacent to non‐buildings but with different greyscales. The resulting 3BD algorithm first detects a building roof by selecting voxels characterised by a jump in elevation as seeds, labelling them and their 3D connected regions as rooftop voxels. Then voxels which fall into buffers and possess similar greyscales to that of the corresponding building outline are assigned as building façades. The results for detected buildings are evaluated using lidar data with different densities and demonstrate a high rate of success. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) Over the last years, the area of conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage has benefited from new surveying methodologies. In particular, laser scanners and the latest evolutions in digital photogrammetry and processing software based on structure from motion and multi-view stereo algorithms allowed to achieve 3D models of the status quo whose features include precision suitable for restoration scales and high-quality textures. Besides methodological and technical issues, another key requirement for any intervention on this kind of buildings is their full, in-depth knowledge, which includes building design, modifications’ timeline, current conditions, present-day and historical causes of degradation etc. In this view, surveys are a valuable asset for the investigation of historical sources. The present work investigates historical photographic sources, focusing on the possibility of orientation by means of photogrammetry techniques, which provides an additional texture layer as a support tool for historical analysis. The paper displays a case study featuring the availability of a reference survey, which allows validation of the results, and two other cases highlighting the importance of this kind of documents to restoring teams. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) The paper provides some operative replies to evaluate the effectiveness and the critical issues of the simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM)-based mobile mapping system (MMS) called ZEB by GeoSLAM™ https://geoslam.com/technology/. In these last years, this type of handheld 3D mapping technology has increasingly developed the framework of portable solutions for close-range mapping systems that have mainly been devoted to mapping the indoor building spaces of enclosed or underground environments, such as forestry applications and tunnels or mines. The research introduces a set of test datasets related to the documentation of landscape contexts or the 3D modelling of architectural complexes. These datasets are used to validate the accuracy and informative content richness about ZEB point clouds in stand-alone solutions and in cases of combined applications of this technology with multisensor survey approaches. In detail, the proposed validation method follows the fulfilment of the endorsed approach by use of root mean square error (RMSE) evaluation and deviation analysis assessment of point clouds between SLAM-based data and 3D point cloud surfaces computed by more precise measurement methods to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed approach. Furthermore, this study specifies the suitable scale for possible handlings about these peculiar point clouds and uses the profile extraction method in addition to feature analyses such as corner and plane deviation analysis of architectural elements. Finally, because of the experiences reported in the literature and performed in this work, a possible reversal is suggested. If in the 2000s, most studies focused on intelligently reducing the light detection and ranging (LiDAR) point clouds where they presented redundant and not useful information, contrariwise, in this sense, the use of MMS methods is proposed to be firstly considered and then to increase the information only wherever needed with more accurate high-scale methods. [Termes IGN] traitement de semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The abyss of Conturines, alsoknown as Cenote Abyss, represents one of the deepest and lagest caves of the Dolomites. This 280 m deep cave is characterized by a huge ice deposit, which makes it of major interest for the study of paleoclimate and modern climate change in this region of the Alps. The cave was discovered in 1994 after the abrupt empying of a lake at 2940 m. In 2015, a research project began to monitor the long-term movements an d volume changes of this ice deposit and to understand the microclimate of the cave. With two expeditions organized in October 2015 and September 2016, a complete study of the cave was carried out using a 3D laser scanner HDS7000 in 2015 and a scanner ScanStation P40 in 2016. Installation of barometric datalodgers, temperature and humidity in different areas of the cave provide a one-year record of the microclimate. In addtion, pollen traps have been installed to study the current flow of pollen on and inside the cave while preliminary analyzes of pollen grains held in the ice are in progress. The Cenote Abyss Ice Caves Research Project aim to shed light on the changing climate of the Dolomites over the past several hundred years, perhaps thousands of years, as well as on environmental changes more recent events that led to the melting of the cave glacier. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) Safe roads are a necessity for any society because of the high social costs of traffic accidents. This challenge is addressed by a novel methodology that allows us to evaluate road safety from Mobile LiDAR System data, taking advantage of the road alignment due to its influence on the accident rate. Automation is obtained through an inductive reasoning process based on a decision tree that provides a potential risk assessment. To achieve this, a 3D point cloud is classified by an iterative and incremental algorithm based on a 2.5D and 3D Delaunay triangulation, which apply different algorithms sequentially. Next, an automatic extraction process of road horizontal alignment parameters is developed to obtain geometric consistency indexes, based on a joint triple stability criterion. Likewise, this work aims to provide a powerful and effective preventive and/or predictive tool for road safety inspections. The proposed methodology was implemented on three stretches of Spanish roads, each with different traffic conditions that represent the most common road types. The developed methodology was successfully validated through as-built road projects, which were considered as “ground truth.”
