[Termes IGN] service fondé sur la positionRésumé : (Auteur) Road network depiction is one of the most important aspects of modern mapping. Consistent, accurate network data available from a number of government and businesses is invaluable for transport, fleet and asset management strategies. Local authorities use it to monitor street repairs, white utility companies use it to improve upon the identification of road sections that require pipe-work maintenance. Integration of GPS technology with road data assists haulage firms and emergency services to maintain real-time tracking of mobile and stationary vehicles. There are also emerging uses on the mobile internet with the development of location-based services (LBS) for people on the move. Copyright Geoinformatics. [Termes IGN] recherche du chemin optimal, algorithme deRésumé : (Auteur) Optimal routing in graphs is wellknown and considered as GIS analysis method using spatial geometrictopological data sets. For car navigation applications, the applied algorithms very often solve the problem in a bottomup hierarchy: starting with a dense level of detail (LoD) and then switching to coarse data levels. No matter which LoD is processed there is an unsolved problem dealing with graphs with forbidden paths. As car navigation systems are now adapted to PDAs, the problem is also valid for mobile GIS applications. For this reason the paper introduces into the problem and gives some mathematical definitions needed for the proves afterwards. The problem is solved by a very general solution: finding the kth shortest path simultaneously to the best solution (best in distance or time minimisation). The solution results from path splitting procedures, which is reconnected afterwards with the original graph. [Termes IGN] visualisation cartographiqueRésumé : (Editeur) Web maps are first put into a broad context, and specific characteristics of these maps are then examined from a user perspective. The various functions of maps on the Web are discussed, int he context of the technical background and fundamental user questions such as what can be done with existing data. Web cartography also provides insight into the particularities of multi-dimensional web maps. Typical characteristics are explained clearly from the perspectives of static viewing and dynamic viewing. For each category, design considerations, based on cartographic principles are discussed. Topics adressed include map contents, map physics and the map environment. Technical terms are explained when necessary. For several time-sensitive topics such as traffic, weather and tourism, the status and future of web maps are discussed. Atlases and national mapping agencies are also covered. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper reports on research performed in the field of automated map generalization. We address the issue of determining how to set parameters of transformation algorithms. Empirical and theoretical studies have shown that, even given fixed map scale and purpose, these parameter values vary from one object to the other according to different characteristics such as the shape, size or environment of the object. Because of the complexity of cartographic rules and generalisation algorithms, we address this problem with techniques developed in the field of Machine Learning from examples. Specifically, we automatically learn, with neural networks, how to determine an algorithm parameters according to a set of measures describing the object to be transformed. We present the main issues to be addressed to use neural networks. We show that our approach is useful and that its main limit stands in the lack of good measures to describe an object. As a case study, this paper presents results of learning how to set the strength of a smoothing algorithm on a line from the French BDCarto database to represent a road on a 1/250,000 scale road map.
