[Termes IGN] scène urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Urban functional zones are basic units of urban planning and resource allocation, and contribute to a wide range of urban studies and investigations. Existing studies on functional-zone mapping with very-high-resolution (VHR) satellite images focused much on feature representations and classification techniques, but ignored zone sampling which however was fundamental to automatic zone classifications. Functional-zone sampling is much complicated and can hardly be resolved by classical sampling methods, as functional zones are complex urban scenes which consist of heterogeneous land covers and have highly abstract categories. To resolve the issue, this study presents a novel sampling paradigm, i.e., heuristic sample learning (HSL). It first proposes a sparse topic model to select representative functional zones, then uses deep forest to select confusing zones, and finally embraces Chinese restaurant process to label these selected zones. The presented method collects both representative and confusing zone samples and identifies their categories accurately, which makes the functional-zone classification process robust and the classification results accurate. Experiments conducted in Beijing indicate that HSL is effective and efficient for functional-zone sampling and classifications. Compared to traditional manual sampling, HSL reduces the time cost by 55% and improves the classification accuracy by 11.3% on average; furthermore, HSL can reduce the variation in sampling and classification results caused by different proficiency of operators. Accordingly, HSL significantly contributes to functional-zone mapping and plays an important role in urban studies. [Termes IGN] style cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This article deals with the cartometric analysis of various seventeenth-century urban maps of the city of Cadiz (Spain), from among which the so-called Vista Arámburu and the map belonging to the atlas of the Marquis of Heliche, discovered in the Krigsarkivet (Military Archive) of Stockholm, stand out for their uniqueness. These hitherto relatively unknown documents present evidence of an evolution of cartographic style towards greater topographic accuracy and hence cannot just be considered as simple drawings. In this seventeenth-century period of transition, the cartography of the city evolved from sixteenth-century aerial-view perspectives to the exhaustive planimetric maps of the eighteenth century, made by Spanish and French Military Corps of Engineers. These documents hold great historical value, not only due to the importance of Cadiz during the Modern Age but also because these maps constitute a graphic testimony of the fortification and growth of the city in this period. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Three-dimensional urban cartography is needed for city changes’ assessment. The variety of studies using 3D calculations of urban elements grows each year. Building and vegetation volumes are necessary to assess and understand spatio-temporal urban changeable environments. However, there are technical questions as to which method can improve 3D urban cartographic accuracy. The innovative part of this current study is the creation of a six-band hybrid obtained from LIDAR and WorldView2 synergy. Two different enhancement algorithms demonstrated the most important spectral features for the urban development and vegetation classes. Results indicated an improvement in accuracy by up to 21.3%, according to the Kappa coefficient. Both infra-red band and intensity band were the most significant, according to the principal components analysis. The synergy delimited classes and polygons, as well as the direct display of information regarding heights of elements and improving the extraction of roads, buildings and vegetation classes. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Since the early twentieth century, thematic mapping techniques such as isochrones have been used for visualizing the accessibility and mobility provided by urban transportation networks. These maps typically depict the area accessible from a point within a certain time or distance threshold. This article details a design alternative to conventional isochrones, which links travel times to network edges. Benefits of this technique include highlighting the network structure of transport networks and comparing travel times for different travel scenarios. This article details methods for producing these maps using free and open-source data and software and provides examples of visualizing different accessibility scenarios in Toronto, Canada.
