[Termes IGN] rugosité du solRésumé : (Auteur) Digital elevation models (DEMs) provide rich clues about various geophysical and geomorphologic processes. These clues include conspicuous protrusions and intrusions of foreground and background portions that testify the presence of channels and ridges in DEMs. We show an application of greyscale granulometries to characterize DEMs through shape-size complexity measures relative to symmetric rhombus, octagon and square templates. We first compute pattern spectra that measure the size distributions of protrusions and intrusions in a DEM. We then employ pattern spectra to compute probability size distribution functions of protrusions and intrusions relative to three templates. We finally compute shape-size complexity measures of DEM by employing these probability functions. To illustrate the implementation of granulometric approach to compute these measures of both background and foreground, we consider an interferometrically generated DEM of a part of Cameron Highlands of Malaysia. Hierarchical watersheds that could be decomposed from DEMs can be better classified via these measures. [Termes IGN] sylvicultureRésumé : (Auteur) This study focuses on the use of coarse spatial resolution (CR, pixel size about 1kM2) remote sensing data for land cover change detection and qualification. Assuming the linear mixing model for CR pixels, the problem is that both the multitemporal class feature and the pixel composition in terms of classes are unknown. The proposed algorithm is then based on the iterative alternate estimation of each unknown variable. At each iteration, the class features are estimated, thanks to the knowledge of the composition of so pixels, and then the pixel composition is re-estimated knowing the class features. The subset of known composition pixels is the sub of pixels where no change has occurred, i.e. the previous land cover map is still valid. It is derived automatically by removing at each iteration the pixels where the new composition estimation disagrees with the former one. Finally, for the final estimation of the pixel composition, a Markovian chain model is used to guide the solution, i.e. the previous land cover map is used as a 'reminder' 'memory' term. This approach has been first validated using simulated data with different spatial resolution ratios. Then, the detection of forest change with SPOT-VGT-S 10 has been considered as an actual application case. Finally, the method has been applied to change detection on the Val de Saône watershed between the 1980s and 2000. The results obtained from three coarse resolution series, NOAA/AVHRR, SPOT/VGT-S 10 and SPOT/VGT-P, have been compared. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is about the development of a decision-support system for water-pollution management and environmental planning. More specifically, the paper first presents the overall concept and the system architecture of a generic environmental decision-support system (EDSS) and then develops an EDSS especially for analysing the tidal flow pattern and water quality of China's Pearl River Delta. The EDSS developed here employs the object-oriented approach to design the environmental database and utilizes the system integration technology to develop the overall user-friendly system that operates in the Windows environment. Furthermore, the system can be expanded to facilitate automated model selection and analysis. The EDSS should be of value for managing water quality of river networks with complicated flow patterns, such as that found in the Pearl River Delta. [Termes IGN] triangulation localeRésumé : (Auteur) Triangulated irregular networks (TIN) can form the basis for multiple-resolution representations in distributed hydrogeomorphic simulations over complex basins. Current methods for deriving TIN meshes depend primarily on surface slope without considering other terrain attributes significant to the watershed response such as the specific basin area. As an alternative, we present a methodology for combining a hydrogeomorphic or landscape index with an unstructured triangulated mesh. Landscape indices provide a concise method for describing steady-state terrain processes by isolating the dominant physical factors. The mesh-generation algorithm results in an adaptive discretization that resembles the spatial pattern of the landscape index with a high resolution retained in areas expected to impact the basin response. We compare the proposed algorithm with a slope-preserving method as a means for initializing the terrain representation in two TIN-based hydrogeomorphic models. Through three case studies in saturation-excess runoff, transport-limited soil erosion and shallow landslide simulation, we assess the distributed model sensitivity to the triangulated terrain algorithm. Model comparisons reveal that the process-based triangulations focus the distributed simulation in regions anticipated via a steady-state index to affect the transient watershed response.
