[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Emerging challenges in Water Demand Management (WDM) call for the implementation of a new approach and new tools as an Integrated Decision Support System (IDSS). This paper discusses the implementation of such a system, designed specifically for the integrated management of the Souss-Massa watershed in Morocco. The formalization of the decision model has been implemented through a Model Driven Approach and the Unified Modeling Language (UML). The set of activities implemented during the project provides an updated spatial database, the appropriate modeling tools and the knowhow for better support in the management of precarious water resources of Souss-Massa. The resulting applications proposed a global-local set of solutions to different problems related to water demand, agriculture, environmental and regional planning. [Termes IGN] transport sédimentaireRésumé : (Auteur) Understanding the spatial pattern of erosion in inter-rill and rill areas can be useful in locating sources of sediment and in determining down-slope sediment delivery. However, spatial information about erosion processes in the inter-rill and rill areas under field conditions is often limited owing to the non-availability of a detailed microtopography. This paper aims to present a method for the survey of microtopographic soil surface changes caused by erosion and to investigate the development of sediment transport and rill erosion in the inter-rill and rill areas for a given rainfall event. The approach is based on the application of close range digital photogrammetry to produce differences of digital elevation models (DEMs), automatically measured and generated but with manual 3D point editing. Quality analysis of the DEM measurements has shown that erosion and deposition can be detected with a relative error of 12·8 to 15·3mm. The minimum average sediment yield from plots with an area of 53m2after the occurrence of 46 to 70mm of erosive rainfall was estimated to be 1·24 to 3·5kgm-2. The spatial pattern of erosion and deposition on inter-rill and rill areas has proved the relative efficiency of rills to transport sediments from inter-rill areas with a sediment delivery ratio greater than one. Thus at erosive rainfall events, the transport capacity of the rill flow was not a limiting condition. The rill network was controlled by abrupt change in surface microtopography where rough surfaces produced many smaller rills but fewer contributing rills than relatively smooth surfaces. Tillage-induced surface roughness, the presence of stones and sparse vegetation, and the borders of individual plots were found to present challenges to the photogrammetric techniques, and to introduce errors which inhibit fully automatic DEM generation. The precision of the DEMs was constrained by the precision of ground control points (GCPs), camera lens distortion towards format edges and DEM extraction parameters. Despite this limitation, however, the application of digital photogrammetry enabled the measurement of high-frequency microtopographic surfaces and characterisation of the spatial distribution of erosion and deposition and of rill erosion development during highly erosive rainfall events. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) The impervious surface area (ISA) has emerged not only as an indicator of the degree of urbanization, but also as a major indicator of environmental quality for drainage basin management. However, since almost all of the methods for estimating ISA have been developed for urban environments, it is questionable whether these methods can be successfully applied to drainage basins, such as those found in Japan, which usually have more complicated vegetation components (e.g. paddy field, plowed field and dense forest). This paper presents a pre-screened and normalized multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (PNMESMA) method, which includes a new endmember selection strategy and an integration of the normalized spectral mixture analysis (NSMA) and multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (MESMA), for estimating the ISA fraction in Lake Kasumigaura Basin, Japan. This new proposed method is superior to the previous methods in that the estimation error of the proposed method is much smaller than the previous SMA- or NSMA-based methods for drainage basin environments. The overall root mean square error was reduced to 5.2%, and no obvious underestimation or overestimation occurred for high or low ISA areas. Through the assessment of environmental quality in Lake Kasumigaura Basin using the ISA fraction, the results showed that the basin has been in the impacted category since 1987, and that in the two decades since, the environmental quality has continued to decline. If this decline continues, then Lake Kasumigaura Basin will fall into the degraded category by 2017. [Termes IGN] surveillance hydrologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This study provides an initial evaluation of a global flood monitoring system (GFMS) using satellite-based precipitation and readily available geospatial datasets. The GFMS developed by our group uses a relatively simple hydrologic model, based on the run-off curve number method, to transform precipitation into run-off. A grid-to-grid routing scheme moves run-off downstream. Precipitation estimates are from the TRMM Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA). We first evaluated the TMPA algorithm using a radar/gauge merged precipitation product (Stage IV) over south-east USA. This analysis indicated that the spatial scale (and hence the basin size) as well as regional and seasonal considerations are important in using the TMPA to drive hydrologic models. GFMS-based run-off simulations were evaluated using observed streamflow data at the outlet of two US basins and also using a global flood archive. Basin-scale analysis showed that the GFMS was able to simulate the onset of flood events produced by heavy precipitation; however, the simulation performance deteriorated in the later stages. This result points out the need for an improved routing component. Global-scale analysis indicated that the GFMS is able to detect 38% of the observed floods; however, it suffers from region-dependent bias.
