Ainsi, dans le domaine de l’eau, les donneurs d’ordres doivent chercher à concilier la restauration des milieux et la prévention des inondations, à travers la mise en œuvre de la nouvelle compétence de Gestion des milieux aquatiques et de prévention des inondations (Gemapi). Le génie végétal, en complément ou alternative à des techniques lourdes de génie civil, représente aujourd’hui une solution « multibénéfices », basée sur un savoir-faire solide en ingénierie écologique et ingénierie végétale. Des utilisations innovantes apparaissent. Elles sont fondées sur des études expérimentales poussées, dont les résultats peuvent être mis à profit pour améliorer les techniques et décider de stratégies d’intervention à différentes échelles spatiales. Elles ont été développées en particulier dans le bassin versant de la Durance dans les Alpes du Sud françaises, où une problématique de terrains érodés existants et d’excès de sédiments fins dans les rivières est responsable de la dégradation des milieux, terrestres et aquatiques, et d’un accroissement du risque d’inondation. Les résultats de quinze années de recherche ont permis de définir des règles d’ingénierie et projeter des aménagements de génie végétal d’envergure régionale. Les approches développées dans ce contexte particulier restent applicable à d’autres régions et pays présentant des risques naturels et des situations de dégradation des milieux semblables.
Cet ouvrage s’adresse aux élus, décideurs et gestionnaires des collectivités territoriales et des syndicats de rivières, et leur apporte des solutions innovantes de génie végétal pour concilier restauration des milieux et prévention des inondations. Il intéressera également les chercheurs, les entrepreneurs, les formateurs et les étudiants, qui découvriront une démarche de recherche en écologie ingénieriale au service de l’ingénierie écologique et du génie végétal.Note de contenu : Introduction. Quantifying and monitoring surface water and its variations are important because of the strong connections between surface water, other hydrological components (groundwater and soil moisture, for example), and the changing climate system. Satellite remote sensing of land surface hydrology has shown great potential in studying hydrology from space at regional and global scales. In this thesis, different techniques using several types of satellite estimates have been made to study the variation of surface water, as well as other hydrological components in the lower Mekong basin (located in Vietnam and Cambodia) over the last two decades. This thesis focuses on four aspects. First, the use of visible/infrared MODIS/Terra satellite observations to monitor surface water in the lower Mekong basin is investigated. Four different classification methods are applied, and their results of surface water maps show similar seasonality and dynamics. The most suitable classification method, that is specially designed for tropical regions, is chosen to produce regular surface water maps of the region at 500 m spatial resolution, from January 2001 to present time. Compared to reference data, the MODIS-derived surface water time series show the same amplitude, and very high temporal correlation for the 2001-2007 period (> 95%). Second, the use of SAR Sentinel-1 satellite observations for the same objective is studied. Optical satellite data are replaced by SAR satellite data to benefit the ability of their microwave wavelengths to pass through clouds. Free-cloud Landsat-8 satellite imagery are set as targets to train and optimize a Neural Network (NN). Predicted surface water maps (30 m spatial resolution) are built for the studied region from January 2015 to present time, by applying a threshold (0.85) to the output of the NN. Compared to reference free-cloud Landsat-8 surface water maps, results derived from the NN show high spatial correlation (_90%), as well as true positive detection of water pixels (_90%). Predicted SAR surface water maps are also compared to floodability maps derived from topography data, and results show high consistency between the two independent maps with 98% of SAR-derived water pixels located in areas with a high probability of inundation (>60%). Third, the surface water volume variation is calculated as the product of the surface water extent and the surface water height. The two components are validated with other hydrological products, and results show good consistencies. The surface water height are linearly interpolated over inundated areas to build monthly maps at 500 m spatial resolution, then are used to calculate changes in the surface water volume. Results show high correlations when compared to variation of the total land surface water volume derived from GRACE data (95%), and variation of the in situ discharge estimates (96%). Fourth, two monthly global multi-satellite surface water products (GIEMS & SWAMPS) are compared together over the 1993-2007 period at regional and global scales. Ancillary data are used to support the analyses when available. Similar temporal dynamics of global surface water are observed when compared GIEMS and SWAMPS, but _50% of the SWAMPS inundated surfaces are located along the coast line. Over the Amazon and Orinoco basins, GIEMS and SWAMPS have very high water surface time series correlations (95% and 99%, respectively), but SWAMPS maximum water extent is just a half of what observed from GIEMS and SAR estimates. SWAMPS fails to capture surface water dynamics over the Niger basin since its surface water seasonality is out of phase with both GIEMS- and MODIS-derived water extent estimates, as well as with in situ river discharge data. [Termes IGN] ouedRésumé : (auteur) Dans ce travail, nous analysons la possibilité d’amélioration de la classification des cultures dans un périmètre irrigué du nord du Maroc en se basant sur la combinaison des données multi-temporelles de trois satellites (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 et Landsat8) avec l’inclusion de cinq indices (NDVI et OSAVI pour la végétation, BSI pour le sol, NDWI pour l’eau et NDBI pour l’urbanisation). Le périmètre concerné (Loukkos), en plus de sa position stratégique, se caractérise par un climat méditerranéen avec une forte valeur écologique. Il présente une intense activité agricole avec une diversité de cultures. Lesquelles en nuance avec les prédictions des scientifiques pourraient être affectées par le changement climatique. Afin de confirmer ou infirmer cette possibilité, nous utilisons des séries d’images satellitaires acquises pendant deux périodes : 09/2016-08/2017 et 09/2017-08/2018. Puis nous faisons subir à ces images collectées diverses phases de traitement telles que : (i) calibration, ortho-rectification et filtrage temporel pour Sentinel-1 et (ii) correction radiométrique atmosphérique, mosaïque, reprojection, ré-échantillonnage des bandes pour Sentinel-2 et Landsat8. A ces traitements, nous injectons des données d’entraînement que nous créons sur la base des photos issues d’enquêtes de terrain menés durant les mois de mars à août 2018. Une fois les traitements effectués et les données d’entrainement injectées, nous déterminons les classes d’occupation du sol en appliquant la classification supervisée via l’algorithme "forêts aléatoires". Ceci, nous a permis de retenir quatorze classes à savoir : eau ; bâtiments et infrastructure ; végétation naturelle ; céréales et fourrages ; maraîchage ; cultures industrielles ; arboriculture ; chêne-liège ; eucalyptus ; pin ; zone inondable ; rizière ; plantes hydrophiles et sol nu. In the years to come, recent and future satellite sensors, some of them specifically designed for hydrological purposes, will provide systematic observations of hydrological parameters (e.g., surface and sub-surface storage and flux) at high spatial and temporal resolutions. This will offer new applications for the hydrological community. This book presents reviews and recent advances of general interest regarding the use of remote sensing for hydrology. The chapters are related to any hydrological reservoir (e.g., surface storage, soil moisture, groundwater, etc.) or flux (e.g., rainfall, evapotranspiration, discharge, etc.), the integration of satellite data into hydrological models, and the improvements to hydrology that can be expected from future satellite missions. [Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Auteur) Above-bottom biomass (ABB) is considered as an important parameter for measuring the growth status of aquatic plants, and is of great significance for assessing health status of wetland ecosystems. In this study, Structure from Motion (SfM) technique was used to rebuild the study area with high overlapped images acquired by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). We generated orthoimages and SfM dense point cloud data, from which vegetation indices (VIs) and SfM point cloud variables including average height (HAVG), standard deviation of height (HSD) and coefficient of variation of height (HCV) were extracted. These VIs and SfM point cloud variables could effectively characterize the growth status of aquatic plants, and thus they could be used to develop a simple linear regression model (SLR) and a stepwise linear regression model (SWL) with field measured ABB samples of aquatic plants. We also utilized a decision tree method to discriminate different types of aquatic plants. The experimental results indicated that (1) the SfM technique could effectively process high overlapped UAV images and thus be suitable for the reconstruction of fine texture feature of aquatic plant canopy structure; and (2) an SWL model based on point cloud variables: HAVG, HSD, HCV and two VIs: NGRDI, ExGR as independent variables has produced the best predictive result of ABB of aquatic plants in the study area, with a coefficient of determination of 0.84 and a relative root mean square error of 7.13%. In this analysis, a novel method for the quantitative inversion of a growth parameter (i.e., ABB) of aquatic plants in wetlands was demonstrated.
