[Termes IGN] recherche d'informationRésumé : (Auteur) The increasing amount and resolution of satellite sensors demand new techniques for browsing remote sensing image archives. Content-based querying allows an efficient retrieval of images based on the information they contain, rather than their acquisition date or geographical extent. Self-organizing maps (SOMs) have been successfully applied in the PicSOM system to content-based image retrieval in databases of conventional images. In this paper, we investigate and extend the potential of PicSOM for the analysis of remote sensing data. We propose methods for detecting man-made structures, as well as supervised and unsupervised change detection, based on the same framework. In this paper, a database was artificially created by splitting each satellite image to be analyzed into small images. After training the PicSOM on this imagelet database, both interactive and off-line queries were made to detect man-made structures, as well as changes between two very high resolution images from different years. Experimental results were both evaluated quantitatively and discussed qualitatively, and suggest that this new approach is suitable for analyzing very high resolution optical satellite imagery. Possible applications of this work include interactive detection of man-made structures or supervised monitoring of sensitive sites. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (auteur) Updating 2D databases has become a crucial issue in most mapping agencies. Such a work traditionally starts out with a change detection phase. A subsequent update phase is then carried out to register changes in the up-to-date database. The first phase is by far the most costly and plodding, as it has until now required field or visual inspection (of orthophotos). The main goal of this paper is to present a new method for detecting changes in the building layer of a 2D cadastral database. This method aims at giving potential changes to a human operator for subsequent validation and update registration. In this paper, we propose a new workflow for the change detection process, by splitting it into 2 separate steps. The first step consists in verifying automatically buildings through a hypothesizeand verify process: the initial description of the database is used to guide the change detection process. The second step consists in extracting new buildings from geometric considerations. In this paper, the method is tested and assessed in a densely built-up area. A specific methodology is firstly employed to estimate the best parameters to use in the system and also to characterise its performance. Results are secondly assessed and show the high potential of our system in such a context. Buildings are reconstructed as a set of roof planes with a set of parametric shapes that model roof superstructures. The proposed model-based approach minimizes a Minimum Description Length energy. [Termes IGN] squelettisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is about an example of PLEIADES applications, the 3D building reconstruction. The future PLEIADES satellites are especially well adapted to deal with 3D building reconstruction through the sub-metric resolution of images and its stereoscopic characteristics. We propose a fully automatic 3D-city model of dense urban areas using a parametric approach. First, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is generated using an algorithm based on a maximum-flow formulation using three views. Then, building footprints are extracted from the DEM through an automatic method based on marked point processes : they are represented by an association of rectangles that we regularize by improving the connection of the neighboring rectangles and the facade discontinuity detection. Finally, a 3D-reconstruction method based on a skeleton process which allows to model the rooftops is proposed from the DEM and the building footprints. The different building heights constitute parameters which are estimated and then regularized by the "K-means" algorithm including an entropy term.
