[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Electrical resistivity method and RS & GIS techniques are very much useful in identification of potential aquifer zones for exploitation, management and recharge of groundwater. Vertical Electrical Soundings are conducted at 35 locations in Gurpur watershed using Schlumberger array. The thematic layers like porosity, transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity are prepared using electrical resistivity data. Total of 13 thematic layers are used for vector integration and identification of Groundwater Potential Zones (GWPZ). The numerical weights and ranks are assigned to the themes based on their relationship with groundwater. The findings shows that the depth to bedrock varies from 9.1 to 44.4 m and most of the mid land and low land region shows moderate to high depths of about 25–44 m. The GWPZ are classified into five classes namely, Very Good (≈21.02 km2), Good (≈231.35 km2), Moderate (≈420.76 km2), Poor (≈185.05 km2) and Very Poor (≈19.56 km2). The Good and Moderate categories cover ≈75% of total area. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (auteur) Light pollution, a phenomenon in which artificial nighttime light (NTL) changes the form of brightness and darkness in natural areas such as protected areas (PAs), has become a global concern due to its threat to global biodiversity. With ongoing global urbanization and climate change, the light pollution status in global PAs deserves attention for mitigation and adaptation. In this study, we developed a framework to evaluate the light pollution status in global PAs, using the global NTL time series data. First, we classified global PAs (30,624) into three pollution categories: non-polluted (5974), continuously polluted (8141), and discontinuously polluted (16,509), according to the time of occurrence of lit pixels in/around PAs from 1992 to 2018. Then, we explored the NTL intensity (e.g., digital numbers) and its trend in those polluted PAs and identified those hotspots of PAs at the global scale with consideration of global urbanization. Our study shows that global light pollution is mainly distributed within the range of 30°N and 60°N, including Europe, north America, and East Asia. Although the temporal trend of NTL intensity in global PAs is increasing, Japan and the United States of America (USA) have opposite trends due to the implementation of well-planned ecological conservation policies and declining population growth. For most polluted PAs, the lit pixels are close to their boundaries (i.e., less than 10 km), and the NTL in/around these lit areas has become stronger over the past decades. The identified hotspots of PAs (e.g., Europe, the USA, and East Asia) help support decisions on global biodiversity conservation, particularly with global urbanization and climate change. [Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (auteur) Augmented reality (AR) navigation aids have become widely used in pedestrian navigation, yet few studies have verified their usability from the perspective of human spatial cognition, such as visual attention, cognitive processing, and spatial memory. We conducted an empirical study in which smartphone-based AR aids were compared with a common two-dimensional (2D) electronic map. We conducted eye-tracking wayfinding experiments, in which 73 participants used either a 2D electronic map or AR navigation aids. We statistically compared participants’ wayfinding performance, visual attention, and route memory between two groups (AR and 2D map navigation aids). The results showed their wayfinding performance did not differ significantly. Regarding visual attention, the participants using AR tended to have significantly shorter fixation durations, greater saccade amplitudes, and smaller pupil sizes on average than the 2D map participants, which indicates lower average cognitive workloads throughout the wayfinding process. Considering attention on environmental objects, the participants using AR paid less visual attention to buildings but more to persons than the participants using 2D maps. Sketched routes results revealed that it was more difficult for AR participants to form a clear memory of the route. The aim of this study is to inspire more usability research on AR navigation. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Information about urban land use is important for urban planning and sustainable development. The emergence of geospatial big data (GBD), increased the availability of remotely sensed (RS) data and the development of new methods for data integration to provide new opportunities for mapping types of urban land use. However, the modes of RS and GBD integration are diverse due to the differences in data, study areas, classifiers, etc. In this context, this study aims to summarize the main methods of data integration and evaluate them via a case study of urban land use mapping in Hangzhou, China. We first categorized the RS and GBD integration methods into decision-level integration (DI) and feature-level integration (FI) and analyzed their main differences by reviewing the existing literature. The two methods were then applied for mapping urban land use types in Hangzhou city, based on urban parcels derived from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) road network, 10 m Sentinel-2A images, and points of interest (POI). The corresponding classification results were validated quantitatively and qualitatively using the same testing dataset. Finally, we illustrated the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches via bibliographic evidence and quantitative analysis. The results showed that: (1) The visual comparison indicates a generally better performance of DI-based classification than FI-based classification; (2) DI-based urban land use mapping is easy to implement, while FI-based land use mapping enables the mixture of features; (3) DI-based and FI-based methods can be used together to improve urban land use mapping, as they have different performances when classifying different types of land use. This study provides an improved understanding of urban land use mapping in terms of the RS and GBD integration strategy. [Termes IGN] ruissellementRésumé : (Auteur) The accurate estimation of terrain characteristics is central in rainfall runoff modelling. In this study, influences of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) obtained from different sources, resolutions and rescaling techniques are compared for Peak flow prediction in a large-scale watershed by the Topographic driven model (TOPMODEL). The comparison includes graphical representation and statistical assessments using daily time series data. As a result, DEM extracted from contour map (DEM-Con) showed better performance when DEM resolutions increased, but the Advanced Space-borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (DEM-Aster) continued to achieve less Relative Error (RE) at low resolution. Moreover, better RE values were found at cubic convolution technique to predict the peaks followed by nearest neighbor and bilinear. In addition, this study indicated that DEM resolution is more sensitive factor for TOPMODEL simulation compared to DEM sources and rescaling techniques for streamflow and peaks prediction.
