[Termes IGN] ruissellementRésumé : (auteur) Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is one of the major techniques that is investigated in the present study using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) methods as two tools for decision-making, weighting and combining different thematic layers include land use, slope, drainage density and hydrological soil groups (HSG). The runoff map obtained by the distributed spatial-physical WetSpa model is considered as a useful layer that is integrated with other thematic layers in the geographic information system (GIS) environment for identifying RWH sites. Kakareza watershed (1132 km2) in Iran was selected as a study area to carry out the foregoing approach. The results showed that 256 km2 of the study area is good for RWH, 360 km2 is moderate and 516 km2 is poor. Thus, about 22.61% (256 km2) of Kakareza watershed is highly suitable for farm ponds. This article recommends the RWH suitable sites to a judicious decision for better water management in the area. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (éditeur) The Special Issue on Advances in Modeling and Management of Urban Water Networks (UWNs) explores four important topics of research in the context of UWNs: asset management, modeling of demand and hydraulics, energy recovery, and pipe burst identification and leakage reduction. In the first topic, the multi-objective optimization of interventions on the network is presented to find trade-off solutions between costs and efficiency. In the second topic, methodologies are presented to simulate and predict demand and to simulate network behavior in emergency scenarios. In the third topic, a methodology is presented for the multi-objective optimization of pump-as-turbine (PAT) installation sites in transmission mains. In the fourth topic, methodologies for pipe burst identification and leakage reduction are presented. As for the urban drainage systems (UDSs), the two explored topics are asset management, with a system upgrade to reduce flooding, and modeling of flow and water quality, with analyses on the transition from surface to pressurized flow, impact of water use reduction on the operation of UDSs, and sediment transport in pressurized pipes. The Special Issue also includes one paper dealing with the hydraulic modeling of an urban river with a complex cross-section. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Water resources management should be assessed under climate change conditions, as historic data cannot replicate future climatic conditions. - Climate change impacts on water resources are bound to affect all water uses, i.e., irrigated agriculture, domestic and industrial water supply, hydropower generation, and environmental flow (of streams and rivers) and water level (of lakes). - Bottom-up approaches, i.e., the forcing of hydrologic simulation models with climate change models’ outputs, are the most common engineering practices and considered as climate-resilient water management approaches. - Hydrologic simulations forced by climate change scenarios derived from regional climate models (RCMs) can provide accurate assessments of the future water regime at basin scales. - Irrigated agriculture requires special attention as it is the principal water consumer and alterations of both precipitation and temperature patterns will directly affect agriculture yields and incomes. - Integrated water resources management (IWRM) requires multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, with climate change to be an emerging cornerstone in the IWRM concept. [Termes IGN] précipitationRésumé : (auteur) During late September, 2019 Bihar was struggling with severe flooding problem, which otherwise is marked as a period of flood recession due to withdrawal of south-east monsoons. The present study assess the flood situation using Sentinel-1 SAR images and complements the understanding about the flood event using long term (2000-18) multi-temporal space based flood sensitive proxy indicators like precipitation (GPM), soil moisture (AMSR-2), vegetation condition (MODIS) together with ground based river gauge (CWC) data. The study reveals that in 2019 during the 39th week of the year (late September) the central and eastern parts of Bihar witnessed heavy precipitation (176 percent higher than average), leading to enhanced soil moisture build up (19 percent higher than average) and consequently triggering severe flooding. River Ganga was observed to be flowing above danger level for almost two weeks. Due to the prolonged submergence by floodwaters a significant drop was observed in the NDVI and EVI values of about 13.7 and 11.1 percent respectively from the normal. About 8.36 lakh ha area was observed to be inundated, impacting about 9.26 million population. Patna followed by Bhagalpur were the two worst affected districts with almost 30% and 36% of districts geographical area being flooded.
