[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (éditeur) Monitoring of water and land objects enters a revolutionary age with the rise of ubiquitous remote sensing and public access. Earth monitoring satellites permit detailed, descriptive, quantitative, holistic, standardized, global evaluation of the state of the Earth skin in a manner that our actual Earthen civilization has never been able to before. The water monitoring topics covered in this book include the remote sensing of open water bodies, wetlands and small lakes, snow depth and underwater seagrass, along with a variety of remote sensing techniques, platforms, and sensors. The Earth monitoring topics include geomorphology, land cover in arid climate, and disaster assessment after a tsunami. Finally, advanced topics of remote sensing covers atmosphere analysis with GNSS signals, earthquake visual monitoring, and fundamental analyses of laser reflectometry in the atmosphere medium. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Estimating rainfall discharge is difficult in large catchment areas with varying topography. This leads to widespread inadequacy in culvert design, with resultant damage to these and other drainage infrastructure during storms, when water runoff is high. The authors developed three ArcGIS-based hydrological models which accurately estimate rainfall discharge for storms that occur anywhere between once every two weeks up to once a century, enabling improvements in culvert infrastructure design. The test results prove the potential for GIS to aid in the creation of highly accurate hydrological models Numéro de notice : A2011-305 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : GEOMATIQUE Nature : Article DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=31084

[Termes IGN] station GPSRésumé : (Auteur) We review the main studies on mesoscale water cycle from the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) project. The estimations of precipitation and evapotranspiration, which are the coupling terms between the atmosphere and the surface water cycles, are addressed. Advances in the evaluation of the various components of atmospheric and surface water budgets are reported, and the yearly surface budgets for the Benin and Niger AMMA mesoscale sites are given as examples. The major outcomes and limitations of atmosphere‐surface model coupling exercises are also reported. The paper concludes with suggestions on the research directions on which the community should make future efforts. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) An intensive water vapour intercomparison effort, involving airborne and ground‐based water vapour lidar systems, was carried out in the framework of the COPS experiment. The main objective of this paper is to provide accurate error estimates for these systems. Comparisons between the ground‐based Raman lidar BASIL and the airborne CNRS DIAL (Differential Absorption Lidar) indicate a mean relative bias between the two sensors, calculated with respect to the mean value of −2.13% (−0.034 g kg−1) in the altitude region 0.5–3.5 km, while comparisons between BASIL and the airborne DLR DIAL lead to a mean relative bias of 1.87% (0.018 g kg−1) in this same altitude region. Comparisons between the ground‐based UHOH DIAL and the CNRS DIAL indicate a bias of −3.2% (−0.37 × 1022 m−3) in the altitude range 1.5–4.5 km, while comparisons between the UHOH DIAL and the DLR DIAL indicate a bias of 0.83% (0.06 × 1022 m−3) in this same altitude range. Based on the available comparisons between the ground‐based Raman lidar BERTHA and the CNRS DIAL, the mean relative bias is found to be −4.37% (−0.123 g kg−1) in the altitude region 0.5–4.5 km. Comparisons between the ground‐based IGN Raman lidar and the CNRS DIAL indicate a bias of 3.18% (0.55 g kg−1) in the altitude range from 0.5 to 4.5 km, while comparisons between the CNRS DIAL and DLR DIAL result in a mean relative bias of 3.93% (1.1 × 1022 m−3) in the altitude interval 0.5–4.0 km. Based on the available statistics of comparisons, benefiting from the fact that the CNRS DIAL was able to be compared with all other lidar systems, and putting equal weight on the data reliability of each instrument, overall relative values for BASIL, BERTHA, IGN Raman lidar, UHOH DIAL, DLR DIAL, and CNRS DIAL, with respect to the mean value, are found to be −0.38, −2.60, 4.90, −1.43, −2.23 and 1.72%, respectively. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) This study investigates the West African Monsoon water cycle with the help of a new hybrid water budget data set developed within the framework of the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses. Surface water and energy fluxes are estimated from an ensemble of land surface model simulations forced with elaborate precipitation and radiation products derived from satellite observations, while precipitable water tendencies are estimated from numerical weather prediction analyses. Vertically integrated atmospheric moisture flux convergence is estimated as a residual. This approach provides an advanced, comprehensive atmospheric water budget, including evapotranspiration, rainfall, and atmospheric moisture flux convergence, together with other surface fluxes such as runoff and net radiation. The annual mean and the seasonal cycle of the atmospheric water budget are presented and the couplings between budget terms are discussed for three climatologically distinct latitudinal bands between 6°N and 20°N. West Africa is shown to be alternatively a net source and sink region of atmospheric moisture, depending on the season (a source during the dry season and a sink during the wet season). Several limiting and controlling factors of the regional water cycle are highlighted, suggesting strong sensitivity to atmospheric dynamics and surface radiation. Some insight is also given into the underlying smaller‐scale processes. The relationship between evapotranspiration and precipitation is shown to be very different between the Sahel and the regions more to the south and partly controlled by net surface radiation. Strong correlations are found between precipitation and moisture flux convergence over the whole region from daily to interannual time scales. Causality is also established between monthly mean anomalies. Hence, precipitation anomalies are preceded by moisture flux convergence anomalies and followed by moisture flux divergence and evapotranspiration anomalies. The results are discussed in comparison to other studies.
