[Termes IGN] rapport signal sur bruitRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we address the problem of order selection in noisy hyperspectral applications. In conventional unmixing methods, this problem has been divided into two separate processes of order selection and unmixing. Order selection methods generally use a denoising approach at the beginning stage. The data in this case pass through three stages: denoising, order selection, and unmixing. Each of these steps mainly aims to optimize a different criterion independently. In addition, any error created in the denoising process will be propagated not only to the order selection stage but also consequently to the unmixing results. Commonly used denoising methods such as eigenvalue-decomposition-based methods, e.g., singular-value-decomposition-based methods, provide a threshold value to separate the noise from the signal. These approaches are heavily sensitive to the threshold value and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Moreover, these methods tend to lose their efficiency rapidly for lower SNRs. Note that both the denoising step and the dimension estimation step aim to provide the optimum estimate of the same noiseless data. Consequently, adopting a simultaneous denoising and dimension estimation method with a goal to provide the optimum estimate of the desired noiseless data is rational. This process not only avoids possible error propagations from the denoising stage to the dimension estimation stage but also unifies the optimization criteria that were used in each of these steps. In this paper, a simultaneous denoising and dimension estimation method is introduced. The approach is based on minimizing the estimated mean square error. Minimization is done by comparing the estimated data in a range of subspaces dictated by a simultaneous process. Minimizing the error at once, the proposed method denoises the data and provides the optimum dimension simultaneously. Owing to the parallel processing of denoising and dimension estimation, the simulation results show the advantages of the proposed method over some of the state-of-the-art approaches and illustrate a substantial performance, particularly for cases with a lower SNR. [Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (Auteur) Water vapor is a key variable in numerical weather prediction, as it plays an important role in atmospheric processes. Nonetheless, the distribution of water vapor in the atmosphere is observed with a coarse resolution in time and space compared to the resolution of numerical weather models. GPS water vapor tomography is one of the promising methods to improve the resolution of water vapor measurements. This paper presents new parameterized approaches for the determination of water vapor distribution in the troposphere by GPS. We present the methods and give first results validating the approaches. The parameterization of voxels (volumetric pixels) by trilinear and spline functions in ellipsoidal coordinates are introduced in this study. The evolution in time of the refractivity field is modeled by a Kalman filter with a temporal resolution of 30s, which corresponds to the available GPS-data rate. The algorithms are tested with simulated and with real data from more than 40 permanent GPS receiver stations in Switzerland and adjoining regions covering alpine areas. The investigations show the potential of the new parameterized approaches to yield superior results compared to the non parametric classical one. The accuracy of the tomographic result is quantified by the inter-quartile range (IQR), which is decreased by 10–20% with the new approaches. Further, parameterized voxel solutions have a substantially smaller maximal error than the non parameterized ones. Simulations show a limited ability to resolve vertical structures above the top station of the network with GPS tomography. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) The work described in this paper deals with denoising of fine detail in terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data for close-range applications. In contrast to other denoising methods described in the literature, the method described here puts the problem back into two dimensions. In the proposed method, data from each instrument station is processed by denoising the range image as a 2D function. Then, after denoising, the registration process is applied to obtain the final 3D point cloud. Two image denoising methods are tested. Wavelet analysis and a “non-local means” (NL-means) algorithm are applied to archaeological objects of sizes described as medium (around one cubic metre) and small (around one cubic decimetre). The rich relief of these objects proves the efficiency of the method on all kinds of surface shape. The experience shows that the NL-means method achieves good results: the standard deviation of 2 mm in the raw data is decreased to 1 mm. Besides, NL-means denoising requires very few parameters to be set (generally two) whilst wavelet denoising requires many. Hence, the extreme simplicity of the NL-means method makes it much more efficient and suitable for use by non-specialists. The method, which slightly modifies the standard production process and inherits the algorithmic complexity of the classical 2D image processing schemes, allows the range of applications of TLS to be extended to small and finely detailed objects.
