First the GPS observables used within this paper are descri-bed and the mean problems concerning with kinematic use of GPS like ambiguity resolution, cycle slips and multipath are pointed out. To adjust the ambiguities in a fast and efficient way a Kalman filter algorithm is presented. The results of the integrated system using different types of vehicles are described. Finally it is shown that by using the observations of all available antennas the accuracy for attitude calculation is the highest one. The method chosen was a modified Kalman filter, algorithm used to correct pre-calculated grids of undulations and dynamic topography. Approximations to the transition matrix of the dynamic topography required that a stabilization of the Kalman filter be developed to prevent divergence.
Data used were TOPEX and ERS-1 altimetry, pre-calculated gravimetric geoid undulations and pre-calculated oceanographic dynamic topography. Evaluation of the dynamic topography data showed a consistently incorrect Gulf Stream location, shape and size. To replace this poor data, a synthetic model was generated from ERS-1 altimetry and an oceanographically calculated mean dynamic topography model. The synthetic data showed good Gulf Stream location, shape and size, though with some systematic disagreement with TOPEX/geoid data. The source of this disagreement was not conclusively determined.
Control data were then used to evaluate the stabilization method of the modified Kalman filter. It was shown that divergences due to a poor transition matrix could be eliminated through the new "down-weight" stabilization scheme. Following this, the real data were run through the modified Kalman filter. To estimate the transition matrix for the dynamic topography, a one-layer quasi-geostrophic approximation to the Navier-Stokes' equations was used. Initial runs used varying scale factors for the standard deviations, to help control unrealistic corrections to the a-priori grids. After that, different down-weight factors were investigated for their ability to generate realistic results without divergence.
Results of the modified Kalman filter with stabilization showed that filter stability, with realistic results was obtainable, even with the simplified transition matrix approximation. It was concluded that this method will be useful for future applications of combining existing grids of geoid undulations and dynamic topography which are generally calculated from different sources. In addition, a model of oceanographic dynamic topography was shown conclusively to be an unrealistic model of the actual dynamic topography near the Gulf Stream.Numéro de notice : 12109 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Monographie Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=54538 Réservation

All navigation information can now be used jointly and optimally, and the integrated navigation system has become standard navigation tool.
This research involved the analysis and investigation of navigation systems (mainly the GPS and integrated navigation systems) and navigation computation for high precision navigation and attitude determination, especially for marine application. The emphasis of the research was to find new methods and concepts to deal with the traditional navigation problems.
The navigation models were analyzed in both time and frequency domains and the model's stability; controllability and observability with GPS observables were introduced in order to facilitate the navigation filter design.
New kind of filters, such as frequency-discriminating filters and separated-bias Kaiman filter, were introduced to navigation data processing, and these filters are useful for GPS data smoothing, cycle slip detection and repair and ambiguity resolution in both static and kinematic modes.
Based on the navigation system and equipment operation and error analysis, a closed-loop dead reckoning integration with other navigation systems (GPS, Omega, Loran-C and radar) was proposed in order to obtain a good system frequency response and facilitate the body's manoeuvre detection and system quality control.
To use GPS potential efficiently, a new GPS observable "Doppler created phase" was introduced and associate algorithms were developed. This new observable can be used in both static and kinematic positioning (if the data rate is high enough) using low-cost navigation receivers (output C/A code and Doppler only), and theoretically an accuracy of equivalent to a phase-floatingambiguity solution can be expected.
Extensive analysis was given to the attitude determination using GPS, and its limits, potential and alternative implementation are also presented.
The software development and data processing validated the proposed theory and algorithms. The results and statistic tests were illustrated by the different kind of plots including the correlograms and periodograms.
