[Termes IGN] projection de Mercator obliqueRésumé : (Auteur) Precise geometric rectification of satellite imagery normally requires knowing the geodetic location of features identifiable in the image, called ground control points (GCPs). In many cases, however, it is difficult to compute a precise geometric rectification because too few GCPs are available due to the lack of ground data or the nature of the terrain (lakes or oceans, deserts, continuous forest, etc). When too few GCPs are available, Space Oblique Mercator (SOM) projection theory can be applied to provide continuous precise geometric rectification of image tiles or scenes. We use GCPs from adjacent, prior, or subsequent image tiles to create the projection geometry for the intermediate tiles. In this paper, we report on the development of a procedure to implement the use of ancillary GCPs in georectifying under-controlled imagery. To validate our method, a test example was computed using 1999 data obtained by a panchromatic camera on board the Indian Remote Sensing satellite IRS-1C with a spatial resolution of 5.8 m. The testing showed that the precision of geometric rectification in a tile without GCPs is within three pixels (about 17.4 m), and the speed of computation is faster than with traditional methods. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) We present a model for the alignment of image sets using topographic data as control information. Traditional photogrammetric practices are point-based and require well-measured and clearly marked entities within the scene; for repeated measurement, their demarcation should also be durable. Nonetheless, placement of photogrammetric control points oftentimes cannot be readily implemented within the area for documentation. In many of those cases, some form of topographic model, either coarse or fine, exists or can be readily established. This topographic description provides a broad and markerless coverage of control information, which, if modeled appropriately, can substitute the use of a control-point network in the alignment process. We present in this paper a registration model for terrestrial images based on surfaces as control information. The paper addresses both the problem of acquiring mutual corresponding entities and registration based on varying resolutions. The application of the proposed approach is demonstrated on a mapping of an archeological site and for registration of a set of terrestrial images of an open, unstructured scene using airborne laser scanning data. Results show both the applicability of such a model and that estimation comparable in quality to point based observations can be achieved. [Termes IGN] transport sédimentaireRésumé : (Auteur) Understanding the spatial pattern of erosion in inter-rill and rill areas can be useful in locating sources of sediment and in determining down-slope sediment delivery. However, spatial information about erosion processes in the inter-rill and rill areas under field conditions is often limited owing to the non-availability of a detailed microtopography. This paper aims to present a method for the survey of microtopographic soil surface changes caused by erosion and to investigate the development of sediment transport and rill erosion in the inter-rill and rill areas for a given rainfall event. The approach is based on the application of close range digital photogrammetry to produce differences of digital elevation models (DEMs), automatically measured and generated but with manual 3D point editing. Quality analysis of the DEM measurements has shown that erosion and deposition can be detected with a relative error of 12·8 to 15·3mm. The minimum average sediment yield from plots with an area of 53m2after the occurrence of 46 to 70mm of erosive rainfall was estimated to be 1·24 to 3·5kgm-2. The spatial pattern of erosion and deposition on inter-rill and rill areas has proved the relative efficiency of rills to transport sediments from inter-rill areas with a sediment delivery ratio greater than one. Thus at erosive rainfall events, the transport capacity of the rill flow was not a limiting condition. The rill network was controlled by abrupt change in surface microtopography where rough surfaces produced many smaller rills but fewer contributing rills than relatively smooth surfaces. Tillage-induced surface roughness, the presence of stones and sparse vegetation, and the borders of individual plots were found to present challenges to the photogrammetric techniques, and to introduce errors which inhibit fully automatic DEM generation. The precision of the DEMs was constrained by the precision of ground control points (GCPs), camera lens distortion towards format edges and DEM extraction parameters. Despite this limitation, however, the application of digital photogrammetry enabled the measurement of high-frequency microtopographic surfaces and characterisation of the spatial distribution of erosion and deposition and of rill erosion development during highly erosive rainfall events. [Termes IGN] RadarsatRésumé : (Auteur) Imagine a fully automated system used to produce accurate high resolution radar ortho-image and -mosaics all over the world with excellent reliability! Emergency management teams could then have access to highly-accurate radar data as soon as it becomes available for their time-sensitive needs. This was a difficult task, mainly due to the arduous process of collecting ground control points (GCPs). It is now possible with the successful operation of the radarsat-2 satellite and a new 3D hybrid satellite model that process this data without user-collected GCPs.
