[Termes IGN] restitutionRésumé : (Auteur) Digital elevation models (DEMs) produced from photogrammetric data sources have long relied on the use of ground control points to give them scale and orientation. However, in areas such as coastlines, landslides, or glaciers, where identification of suitable natural features and premarking is difficult, the use of conventional ground control may be unfeasible. This paper reports on research that uses independently collected DEMs derived from kinematic GPS to orient surfaces produced by aerial photogrammetric methods, using a leastsquares surface matching algorithm. During algorithm development, three stages of testing were carried out, Using increasingly more complex datasets. Initially, simulated surfaces were used to validate the matching theory and program. Then, a DEM derived from conventional aerial photography was matched with a GPS model, highlighting the effectiveness of surface matching to recover systematic errors in datosets. Finally, surfaces derived from small format digital imagery were successfully fused with wireframe GPS surfaces, the high redundancy and automation potential creating an elegant and cheaper alternative to photocontrol. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) This paper revisits the basic mathematical formulation of orthoimage (digital orthophoto) generation. The main objective is to provide an approach for predicting the accuracy of an orthoimage, according to the accuracy of the digital elevation model (DEM), control points and image measurements, the configuration of fiducial, tie and control points, and the ground slope. The approach is based on applying the wellknown law of error propagation to the mathematical model of orthoimage generation. Although it may seem intuitive for professionals in the field of photogrammetry, such an approach is essential in the era when specialists in other fields use offtheshelf software packages for orthoimage generation. Simulations with the derived approach show that the accuracy of the orthoimage is more sensitive to errors in image measurement of fiducial, tie and control points and ground coordinates of control points, than to DEM errors. Nonstandard configurations of fiducial, tie and control points further impair the accuracy. In addition, certain combinations of point location and ground slope might lead to unacceptably large error on the orthoimage. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) Thirteen panchromatic (Pan) and multiband (XS) Ikonos Geoproduct images over seven study sites with various environments and terrain were tested using different cartographic data and accuracies with a 3D parametric model developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, Natural Resources Canada. The objectives of this study were to define the relationship between the final accuracy and the number and accuracy of input data, to track error propagation during the full geometric correction process (bundle adjustment and orthorectification), and to advise on the applicability of the model in operational environments.
When ground control points (GCPs) have an accuracy poorer than 3 m, 20 GGPs over the entire image are a good compromise to obtain a 3- to 4-m accuracy in the bundle adjustment. When GCP accuracy is better than 1 m, ten GCPs are enough to decrease the bundle adjustment error of either panchromatic or multiband images to 2 to 3 m. Because GGP residuals reflect the input data errors (map and/or plotting), these errors did not propagate through the 3D parametric model, and the internal accuracy of the geometric model is thus better (around a pixel or less).
Quantitative and qualitative evaluations of orthoimages were thus performed with either independent check points or overlaid digital vector files. Generally, the measured errors confirmed the predicted errors or were even slightly better, and a 2- to 4-m positioning accuracy was achieved for the orthoimages depending upon the elevation accuracy (DEM and grid spacing). To achieve a better final positioning accuracy, such as 1 m, a DEM with an accuracy of 1 to 2 m and with a fine grid spacing is required, in addition to welldefined GCPs with an accuracy of 1 m.Numéro de notice : A2003-001 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.14358/PERS.69.1.43 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.14358/PERS.69.1.43 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22299

[Termes IGN] spatiotriangulationRésumé : (auteur) VEGETATION data are mainly used for multidate applications, which induces high level geometrical specifications, especially for multitemporal registration. To comply with them, the VEGETATION 1 image location is improved by a systematic use of ground control points. These are provided by a ground control points data base generated through VEGETATION 1 chips using spacetriangulation method. Consequently, since its launch onboard SPOT 4 in March 1998, VEGETATION 1 has showed a very good and stable geometrical performance. VEGETATION 2, launched onboard SPOT 5 in May 2002, completes now VEGETATION 1 for operational production. It is so essential to ensure geometrical continuity between both sensors. On SPOT 5, a stellar sensor provides a very good estimation of satellite attitude, implying a very good absolute image location : it is not necessary to improve VEGETATION 2 images using ground control points. However, it was necessary to perform a fine geometrical calibration of VEGETATION 2 cameras that was realised during the commissioning phase using ground control points of the VEGETATION 1 data base. Today, we can say that VEGETATION 2 geometrical performance is at least as good as VEGETATION 1's and geometrical continuity is guaranteed. The object of this paper is to present VEGETATION 1 geometrical performance and the methods and results of VEGETATION 2 geometrical commissioning phase.
