[Termes IGN] réalité de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) Nadir viewing satellite image is an effective data source to generate orthomosaics. Because of the georeferencing error of satellite images, block adjustment is the first step of orthomosaic generation over a large area. However, the geometric relationship of the neighboring orbits of the nadir viewing images is not rigid enough. This paper proposes a new rational function model (RFM) block adjustment approach that constrains the tie point elevation to enhance the relative geometric rigidity. By interpolating the elevations of tie points in a digital elevation model (DEM) and estimating the a priori errors of the interpolated elevations, better overall relative accuracy is obtained, and the local optimal solution problem is avoided. By constraining the adjusted model parameters according to the a priori error of RFMs, block adjustment without ground control point (GCP) is performed. By optimal initializing the object-space positions of tie points with multi-backprojection method, the needed iteration times of block adjustment are reduced. The proposed approach is investigated with 46 Ziyuan-3 sensor-corrected images, a 1:50 000 scale DEM, and 586 GCPs. Compared with Teo's approach that constrains the horizontal coordinates and elevations of tie points, the approach in this paper converges much faster when the GCPs are sparse, and meanwhile, the absolute and relative accuracy of the two approaches are almost the same. The result of block adjustment with only four GCPs shows that no accuracy degeneration occurred in the test area and the root-mean-square error of independent check point reaches about 1.5 ground resolutions. Different DEMs and number of tie points are used to investigate whether the block adjustment result is influenced by these factors. The results show that better DEM accuracy and denser tie points do improve the accuracy when the images have large side-sway angles. The proposed approach is also tested with 5118 IKONOS-2 images that cover the southern Europe without GCP. The result shows that the relative mosaicking accuracy is much better than that of Grodecki's approach.

[Termes IGN] points homologuesRésumé : (auteur) Historical photographs become widely used in geographical and environmental applications. Their enhancement involves converting them into georeferenced data, such as orthoimages or digital models. However no ground control points are available unlike in current image processing, and many problems such as image noise, landscape modifications, perspective distortion and unknown sensor calibration prevent automatic tie-point retrieval with current orthoimages. That is why photograph georeferencing remains a manual and time-consuming task. A novel method is presented in this paper to register photographs with current topographic database using line feature matching. Indeed, geometrical considerations only let avoid high radiometric difference issues when dealing with current orthoimages. Besides topographic database use lets selecting stable through time features, such as road network and historical buildings. A multi-scale approach allows very coarse georeferencing initialization, which can be set manually by a minimum number of ground control points per image set. At each scale an iterative processing improves the line matching and the registration model estimation at the same time. Finally, building integration makes registration more reliable for off-ground objects. Results are promising as georeferencing is much improved and its estimation converges in all test cases. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Diverse applications can benefit from the integration of data acquired by a new generation of close-range imaging sensors with high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) geometric data. However, such integration requires increased automation and efficiency of image-data registration to guarantee adoption by users beyond the geomatics community. This paper presents a semi-automated method for registering terrestrial panoramic hyperspectral imagery with lidar models and conventional digital photography. The method relies on finding corresponding points between images acquired in significantly different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, from different viewpoints, and with different spatial resolution and geometric projections. Optimisation of the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) operator was required to ensure a sufficient number of homologous points, as well as a routine for eliminating false matches. A band selection routine maximises the number of points found while minimising the input data for SIFT. Three-dimensional object coordinates were derived in the lidar model and used as control points in a bundle block adjustment to determine the hyperspectral exterior orientation and intrinsic camera parameters. The method developed was applied to two datasets with different characteristics, and the results indicate that the proposed method is a time-saving alternative to manual approaches. [Termes IGN] précision du positionnementRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne lidar systems have the potential to produce extremely accurate terrain information at high spatial densities. However, to meet stringent accuracy requirements and minimize systematic errors, proper calibration of the lidar system is required. "Boresighting" is a technique used to correct for some of these systematic errors and improve the spatial alignment of lidar passes. One challenge with boresighting is the mensuration accuracy to which a known point can be located in overlapping low density lidar strips. To address this issue, a raised Hexagonal Retro-Reflective Lidar ground Target (hrrt) is introduced. The target was optimized for precise mensuration at low point densities. The mensuration model is based on a least squares hexagon fitting approach and is proven to produce mensuration accuracies of 5 cm horizontal and 4 cm vertical (1-sigma) at ~2 pts/m2. To demonstrate a practical application, the hrrt's are used as tie points in a rigorous boresight adjustment to compute lidar strip misalignment parameters (roll, pitch, heading, and range bias). The adjustment results show that accurate boresight parameters are recovered along with their associated uncertainties.
