While stereo processing of classical cameras is state of the art for many applications, stereo with fish-eye cameras have been much less discussed in literature. This paper discusses the geometric calibration and the epipolar rectification as pre-requisite for stereo processing with fish-eyes. First, it surveys mathematical models to describe the projection. Then the paper presents a method of generating epipolar images which are suitable for stereo-processing with a field of view larger than 1 SO' in vertical and horizontal viewing directions. One example with 3D-point measuring from real fish-eye images demonstrates the feasibility of the calibration and rectification procedure. [Termes IGN] stabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Recent developments of digital cameras in terms of the size of a Charged Coupled Device (CCD) and Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) arrays, as well as reduced costs, are leading to their applications in traditional and new photogrammetric, surveying, and mapping functions. Such cameras require careful calibration to determine their metric characteristics, as defined by the Interior Orientation Parameters (IOP), which are essential for any photogrammetric activity. Moreover, the stability of the estimated iop of these cameras over short and long time periods has to be analyzed and quantified. This paper outlines the incorporation of straight lines in a bundle adjustment procedure for calibrating off-the-shelf/low-cost digital cameras. A framework for automatic extraction of the straight lines in the images is also presented and tested. In addition, the research introduces new approaches for testing the camera stability, where the degree of similarity between reconstructed bundles using two sets of IOP is quantitatively evaluated. Experimental results with real data proved the feasibility of the line-based self-calibration approach. Analysis of the estimated IOP from various calibration sessions over long time periods revealed the stability of the implemented camera. [Termes IGN] système de coordonnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The determination of object coordinates based on direct sensor orientation is an extrapolation from the projection centers to the ground coordinate system. Like any extrapolation, it is sensitive to random and systematic errors, as well as, to improper data handling. Direct sensor orientation is based on the combination of an Inertial Measurement System (IMU) and GPS. The GPS antenna, the IMU, and the imaging sensor are located in different positions, and the latter two have different orientations. Therefore, the calibration of all sensors and the relation between the sensors is of vital importance for precise ground positioning. The system calibration includes the determination of the boresight misalignment, the interior camera orientation, and the GPS antenna offset. A rigorous mathematical model is required. The inner orientation of the camera used has to be determined under flight conditions to achieve sufficient results. In this paper, the influence of the system calibration to the direct sensor orientation and improper data handling will be shown. [Termes IGN] température de luminanceRésumé : (Auteur) End-to-end calibration of the Microwave Imaging Radiometer by Aperture Synthesis (MIRAS) radiometer refers to processing the measured raw data up to dual-polarization brightness temperature maps over the earth's surface, which is the level 1 product of the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission. The process starts with a self-correction of comparators offset and quadrature error and is followed by the calibration procedure itself. This one is based on periodically injecting correlated and uncorrelated noise to all receivers in order to measure their relevant parameters, which are then used to correct the raw data. This can deal with most of the errors associated with the receivers but does not correct for antenna errors, which must be included in the image reconstruction algorithm. Relative S-parameters of the noise injection network and of the input switch are needed as additional data, whereas the whole process is independent of the exact value of the noise source power and of the distribution network physical temperature. On the other hand, the approach relies on having at least one very well-calibrated reference receiver, which is implemented as a noise injection radiometer. The result is the calibrated visibility function, which is inverted by the image reconstruction algorithm to get the brightness temperature as a function of the director cosines at the antenna reference plane. The final step is a coordinate rotation to obtain the horizontal and vertical brightness temperature maps over the earth. The procedures presented are validated using a complete SMOS simulator previously developed by the authors.
