[Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (auteur) Independent methods for geometric calibration (GC) have become an important research direction in the field of optical satellite technology. The main purpose of this research is to eliminate dependence on ground calibration sites using relative constraints between images. Based on a systematic analysis of these relative constraints, we found that it was difficult, if not impossible, to completely eliminate ground constraints, although the number of ground control points (GCPs) required can be greatly reduced. To achieve practical GC with high accuracy and low cost, we proposed a new method to compensate for systematic errors in linear optical satellite data acquisition using only the relative constraints between two overlapped images, namely, the corresponding elevation constraints and sparse GCPs. We first demonstrated the feasibility of GC with relative constraints and established an optimized GC model suitable for these relative constraints. We then presented a global iterative method to eliminate inaccuracies in internal calibration caused by the different distributions of GCPs within two images. The nadir (NAD) linear camera on board the Zi-Yuan 3 (ZY-3) satellite was used to evaluate the feasibility of the presented GC method; the results indicated that the present method effectively compensated for systematic errors. Thus, this article demonstrated the feasibility of GC without calibration sites. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Active research on the development of autonomous vehicles has been carried out for several years now. However, some significant challenges still need to be solved in this context. Particularly relevant is the constant guarantee and assurance of the integrity of such autonomous systems. In order to ensure safe manoeuvring in the direct environment of humans, an accurate, precise, reliable and continuous determination of the vehicle’s position and orientation is mandatory. In geodesy, this process is also referred to as georeferencing with respect to a superordinate earth-fixed coordinate system. Especially for complex inner-city areas, there are no fully reliable methods available so far. The otherwise suitable and therefore common Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) observations can fail in urban canyons. However, this fact does not only apply exclusively to autonomous vehicles but can generally also be transferred to any kinematic Multi-Sensor System (MSS) operating within challenging environments. Especially in geodesy, there are many MSSs, which require accurate and reliable georeferencing regardless of the environment. This is indispensable for derived subsequent products, such as highly accurate three-dimensional point clouds for 3D city models or Building Information Modelling (BIM) applications. The demand for new georeferencing methods under aspects of integrity also involves the applicability of big data. Modern sensors for capturing the environment, e.g. laser scanners or cameras, are becoming increasingly cheaper and also offer higher information density and accuracy. For many kinematic MSSs, this change leads to a steady increase in the amount of acquired observation data. Many of the currently methods used are not suitable for processing such amounts of data, and instead, they only use a random subset. Besides, big data also influences potential requirements with regard to possible real-time applications. If there is no excessive computing power available to take into account the vast amounts of observation data, recursive methods are usually recommended. In this case, an iterative estimation of the requested quantities is performed, whereby the comprehensive total data set is divided into several individual epochs. If the most recent observations are successively available for each epoch, a filtering algorithm can be applied. Thus, an efficient estimation is carried out and, with respect to a comprehensive overall adjustment, generally larger observation sets can be considered. However, such filtering algorithms exist so far almost exclusively for explicit relations between the available observations and the requested estimation quantities.
If this mathematical relationship is implicit, which is certainly the case for several practical issues, only a few methods exist or, in the case of recursive parameter estimation, none at all. This circumstance is accompanied by the fact that the combination of implicit relationships with constraints regarding the parameters to be estimated has not yet been investigated at all. In this thesis, a versatile filter algorithm is presented, which is valid for explicit and for implicit mathematical relations as well. For the first time, methods for the consideration of constraints are given, especially for implicit relations. The developed methodology will be comprehensively validated and evaluated by simulations and real-world application examples of practical relevance. The usage of real data is directly related to kinematic MSSs and the related tasks of calibration and georeferencing. The latter especially with regard to complex innercity environments. In such challenging environments, the requirements for georeferencing under integrity aspects are of special importance. Therefore, the simultaneous use of independent and complementary information sources is applied in this thesis. This enables a reliable georeferencing solution to be achieved and a prompt notification to be issued in case of integrity violations.Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] vision stéréoscopiqueRésumé : (auteur) Stereo reconstruction is a problem of recovering a 3d structure of a scene from a pair of images of the scene, acquired from different viewpoints. It has been investigated for decades and many successful methods were developed. The main drawback of these methods, is that they typically utilize a single depth cue, such as parallax, defocus blur or shading, and thus are not as robust as a human visual system that simultaneously relies on a range of monocular and binocular cues. This is mainly because it is hard to manually design a model, accounting for multiple depth cues. In this work, we address this problem by focusing on deep learning-based stereo methods that can discover a model for multiple depth cues directly from training data with ground truth depth. The complexity of deep learning-based methods, however, requires very large training sets with ground truth depth, which is often hard or costly to collect. Furthermore, even when training data is available it is often contaminated with noise, which reduces the effectiveness of supervised learning. In this work, in Chapter 3 we show that it is possible to alleviate this problem by using weakly supervised learning, that utilizes geometric constraints of the problem instead of ground truth depth. Besides the large training set requirement, deep stereo methods are not as application-friendlyas traditional methods. They have a large memory footprint and their disparity range is fixed at training time. For some applications, such as satellite stereo i magery, these are serious problems since satellite images are very large, often reaching tens of megapixels, and have a variable baseline, depending on a time difference between stereo images acquisition. In this work, in Chapter 4 we address these problems by introducing a novel network architecture with a bottleneck, capable of processing large images and utilizing more context, and an estimator that makes the network less sensitive to stereo matching ambiguities and applicable to any disparity range without re-training. Because deep learning-based methods discover depth cues directly from training data, they can be adapted to new data modalities without large modifications. In this work, in Chapter 5 we show that our method, developed for a conventional frame-based camera, can be used with a novel event-based camera, that has a higher dynamic range, smaller latency, and low power consumption. Instead of sampling intensity of all pixels with a fixed frequency, this camera asynchronously reports events of significant pixel intensity changes. To adopt our method to this new data modality, we propose a novel event sequence embedding module, that firstly aggregates information locally, across time, using a novel fully-connected layer for an irregularly sampled continuous domain, and then across discrete spatial domain. One interesting application of stereo is a reconstruction of a planet’s surface topography from satellite stereo images. In this work, in Chapter 6 we describe a geometric calibration method, as well as mosaicing and stereo reconstruction tools that we developed in the framework of the doctoral project for Color and Stereo Surface Imaging System onboard of ESA’s Trace Gas Orbiter, orbiting Mars. For the calibration, we propose a novel method, relying on starfield images because large focal lengths and complex optical distortion of the instrument forbid using standard methods. Scientific and practical results of this work are widely used by a scientific community. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) Centimetre level precision mapping is essential for many applications such as land-use, infrastructure inspection, cultural heritage preservation, and construction site monitoring. However, the acquisition and its preparation (in particular the setting of a ground control point network (GCPs)) are still expensive or even impossible in cluttered or dangerous areas. The recent development of UAVs together with the miniaturization of the sensors is a promising evolution for reducing costs and expand opportunities. The sensors embedded on the drone: GNSS antenna, IMU, camera and (optional) LIDAR are light and often low-cost. The low quality of their raw measurements must be counterbalanced by their rigorous modeling in order to obtain accurate final results: if we cannot expect the sensors to be error-free, one must model these in order to correct them. This is achieved by in-situ calibration or on a dedicated calibration field, together with a rigorous fusion of the raw data acquired by the different sensors with the so-called bundle-adjustment method. This thesis proposes several models to describe the behavior of the sensors, in order to hybridize them rigorously in the bundle-adjustment. Consistent datasets have been acquired on the field specifically to assess the relevance of both the sensor models and their hybridizing in complex photogrammetric processing. The contribution of this thesis could be divided into two mains categories. On one hand, this thesis suggests tools and recommendation to improve directly the procedures achieved by end-users using current UAV-mapping commercial solutions (in particular for the GCPs placement, for the choice of the camera calibration and model and for the flight-plan). On the other hand, this thesis put forward exotic methods (methods considered as exotic at the time of the writing of the thesis) such as Photo-LIDAR hybridizing and collaborative mapping achieved by a terrestrial-aerial tandem (a terrestrial vehicle holding a LIDAR, GNSS, imaging and inertial sensors followed by a drone conceived to proceed to airborne photogrammetry) or an aerial-aerial tandem (two drones flying in formation to proceed to airborne photogrammetry). The contribution of this thesis will permit to reduce costs, to improve the quality of mapping products and to enlarge the possibilities of mapping: in particular, map cluttered or inaccessible zones which are nowadays considered as difficult or even impossible to map.
